The Cayenne isn't too bad, for a station wagon.

No fakes please. And if your wondering my 28 year old sister drives a Cayenne

In our region we have an autocross every month, all year long. One kid has started hanging out that drives a beat up 914. He will turn 18 real soon an he can start driving at the autocross. He was welcome with open arrms. I hope he comes to our charity car show in a week.

We have several members with new 911s and few of them actually ever autocross. I drove a 914 for years. I never felt excluded. Maybe it is just the part of the country you live in.

We have not had a wine & chese party in our region in over 25 years.

There does seem to be a lot of variations in club experience in different regions. Our local chapter (upper Canada region) seems to be an even split between enthusiasts and wine and cheese folks. The track days are always booked solid, and very few of those folks seem to show up to the socials. And vice-versa.

The Cayenne Turbo is truly fugly, but it will put a grin on your face all day long. Awesome machine. Selling like hot cakes in Russia and China.

Porsche built the 944 to make money and save the company too. It worked. Deal with it. The PCA chapters I've had contact with are/were pretty snooty towards old 944 owners too. Probably to anyone not a recent-model 911 owner without a bar card or current AMA membership.

I dislike SUVs in general but the Cayenne is at least a well-made and impressive one. If I had to have an SUV I'd seriously consider one.

I never get this.

Do you all actually attend events and participate? Many of these folks with new cars used to have the old cars you have now. Hell we have wine and cheese after the track is cold.

The club is what YOU make of it.

My local Porsche dealer has (2) free car clinics a year. Lot of eye candy at those events.

I autocrossed a Cayenne GTS and it performed remarkably well.....

It was just for fun (not timed), but it didn't feel slow at all. I was actually pretty impressed.

We just need to look to ourselves to see why Porsche (and most every other manufacturer) feels it necessary to build SUVs. The plain fact is that far too many Americans like to drive around in super-sized vehicles. In many cases, it's not even an issue of "need"...it's an issue of "want". Even with gas prices hovering in the $4.00/gal range, people are still buying up big SUVs and full-size p/u trucks like crazy. As long as so many people in the lucrative American market want to be truck drivers, manufacturers will continue to flood the market with the type of vehicles they want. If we didn't keep buying them, SUVs would disappear in short order.

I agree.

Our club has something for everyone. Wife loves the wine tasting tour ones, while the sons (1, 2, and3) love the backroads rallys and runs that end up with bbq steaks at some old ranch barn. When I first joined my PCA region and made a suggestion, I ended up planning an event. Did it the way I wanted and got a dozen ohter members to come along.
We've got a "tour" coming up and I'm teaming up with a friend with a 968 to caravan to the tour start point and make a fun run out of it. right now we've got a boxster and a 993 going and hoping for another friend with a 914-6. As long as it says Porsche on it we're good (obviously I'm not a purist).

Anyone who trashes the Cayenne Turbo...probably has not driven one. It has pretty remarkable performance, is agressively styled, and is utiltarian in ways a 911 could never be. It is the perfect compliment to the stable of a older 911 owner as it is a great vehicle for the winter and is a great tow vehicle. It has a huge back seat with amazing leg room where adults can actually sit comfortably. It has quite pleasing lines and an agressive stance (Compared to other SUVs, not 930s) reminicient of other Porsches. The turbo's acceleration will slam you back in the seat and the Big Reds will stop the huge beast on a dime. It also brings some new blood into the 911 world...What more could you want. I was not as impressed with the normally aspirated versions.

It is reasons like this that the 356 Registry and similar (912, 911s, etc) exist.

Why did Porsche have to build the Cayenne?
To give people like me job security.
A lot of our female customers like/love their Cayennes. For those of you that have not driven one, make no mistake! These "trucks" handle quite well. You wouldn't think so just looking at them until you have a chance to push it through some twistys. The turbos go like stink on poo. Did I mention that road tests are one of the favorite bennys of my job?
