I remember a story about a large stretch of the "new" 22 freeway where they'd just redone it having no lights... Because someone stole the wiring. I mean how does nobody notice them stealing wiring serving freeway lighting?

With such industriousness you'd think these guys could get jobs paying better...

I've seen some pretty dishonest stuff from American workers, they may have sold it, then said it was stolen...

Copper thieves.........

The communications company that I retired from had a roll of large telephone cable wire ($20K worth) stolen a few months ago. The thieves cut the chain on the gate and loaded up the spool of wire. I'm surprised that they didn't take the metal chain as well! The recyclers around here have to keep info (names, address, etc.) on everyone that sells to them. That has slowed down the problem a bit.

October 18, WLS-AM 890; ABC News Radio – (Pennsylvania) Entire bridge stolen, sold for scrap. Two Pennsylvania brothers have been charged with stealing a bridge and selling it piecemeal to a scrap yard, WLS-AM 890 reported October 18. Police said the brothers, ages 24, and 25, of New Castle, dismantled a 40-by-15-foot bridge by using a torch to take apart pieces. Between September 16 and September 28, the brothers stole the entire bridge and then sold the steel for $5,000. The bridge was once used to access a fireworks manufacturing plant, but was no longer regularly used. It was owned by the New Castle Development Corporation, and located in a wooded area in North Beaver Township, according to police. The brothers are facing felony charges including criminal mischief, theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy, and were being held on $25,000 bail. Source: WLS 890AM
