They stole a bridge???
This is in the town next to me...
Pennsylvania Bridge Theft: Owners Baffled By Disappearance Of 50-Foot-Long Span |
No piece of metal is safe around here. Every week someone is arrested or convicted of steal what they think is scrap metal.
A guy scrapped his MOTHER'S car for $385.20, it was a Chrysler Sebring worth $6800. How do you steal a $100,000 bridge, that would take some equipment other that a cutting torch. |
Yeah but....it was a BRIDGE for crissake.
|
Heh heh. Heard that on the news yesterday. The announcers were chuckling over how someone could dismantle something like that unnoticed. Must have been a veeerrrry rural location.
|
That must have been a lot of work. The crooks must be getting desperate.
|
It's okay, I'm sure it'll be replaced "for free"* under Obama's Stimulus II.
* = if the taxpayers pay for it, it doesn't count. |
There has been a lot of metal theft here lately.
I huge brass sculpture was stolen , heavy, but apparently they had plenty of lifting capacity. Another things is copper theft, from railroad or high voltage power distribution. A lot of Eastern Europeans are at it.. and occasionally one of them get's fried doing so. |
The scrap guys accepting stolen goods need to be dealt with. Now I can understand that a scrapped bridge looks like typical scrap but much of the other stolen stuff is probably quite obvious.
I have heard thieves are melting stuff down to get rid of the evidence but that should be a huge flag when someone shows up with a ball of melted shiny copper. |
The guy with the car had to show ID and the title, he paid for a tow truck (the car would still run) and he posed for a picture with the car. The recycler does all of this to protect themselves.

back on topic..if i were to steal a bridge..i would disguise myself as a bridge construction crew. i bet it could be done in a day. |
Those thieves are smart and organized.
This guy is totally stupid, first he blows his face off stealing a valve off a propane tank, then he fries himself stealing copper off of a live transformer. Toronto News: Man near death after being zapped stealing copper wire, police say - thestar.com These stories don't surprise me anymore. |
Meth... One wire thief was electrocuted near here a couple of years back. I'm beginning to think Meth is worse than Heroin..as a societal problem.
|
Friend in Glendale,CA had his office AL screens stolen something like five times. He finally quit replacing them and went with security bars.
|
I had the son of a friend help me clean out some junk metal. He got 500 for the load. Not all of that was mine, but still....
Now I wish I had a few pieces back. Always happens that way, huh? |
A few years ago some thieves stole all the ac units off the roof of a rather large mall, they dressed as workers and had a crane and everything, never did catch them.
|
Last year, around here they stole the bronze vases and veteran bronze medallions from a cemetery. That's sick. Those people should burn in hell.
|
i hear copper is the new gold. Suposed to go up like 4x in the next few years. so if youve got a stash save it. I do alot of plumbing so I obtain it legally :)
|
Copper theft had gotten to be a huge problem here in SC... mostly A/C units at businesses and churches late at night when no one was on the property.
It is now way down (60-70%) due to the fact that, "As of Aug. 17, scrap copper sellers and recyclers must have permits from their local sheriff to legally sell or buy the metal. To buy, metal recyclers must make a copy of a seller’s permit. They also must record information on each sale, including the seller’s photograph and license plate number, the date and amount paid, and a description of the metal. The law also bars cash for copper. Payments must be by check, providing further record of the transaction." More: South Carolina Targets Copper Theft |
I saved all of my metal and copper for my recycling guy so they can have some money. Some bone head had stolen all of my metal and cooper wires that was pulled out of a 2500 sq' home along with about 10 spools of new copper wires and alum conduits. They help themselves to the gate and took it right out of the back yard. This is at one of my construction job site (upper middle class area here in los angeles). Bastards knew there's construction going on. They didn't touch my tile setter's tile saw. What a pisser.
