My Mag light is like a candle
Living in a rural area, I'm always having a need for a good bright flashlight. I thought my Mag Light was pretty much the ultimate for brightness & distance.
Well, a Bullitt posting board member, a cop, began raving about this one. Curious, I ordered one. He was right...The mag light has been moved to the garage workbench, while this one sits near the patio door, ready for me to light up the area behind the house. Fenix TK60 High Performance LED Flashlight

You should do a search here. There are several flashlight threads, and several folks here who have made some recommendations of pretty high end stuff.
Glad you're happy with your new one.

Costco has a three pack of very nice high intensity flashlights. $19.99 for three of them and am so happy with them am going back to buy another 3 of them.
Agree and while my mag light was once the best there was, its now sitting like Paul's by the door in-case its needed there.

I considered the source...a Houston cop, BTW. Cops keep up on lights, don't they? In my rural area, I need a very bright & far reaching light. This one fills the bill in an amazing manner. Yes, I've read the other threads. On the other hand, the "do a search" police can be annoying...especially when they don't provide a link.

I don't know what happened to Maglite, but they don't seem to have done much in the last 20 years. I've heard that a divorce may have destroyed the company.
It's unfortunate, because their big rechargeable used to be the best and brightest around, at least for practical use. |

I added the maglite "retro fit" LED bulbs to all of my big maglites, was a significant improvement for minimal cost (the bulbs happened to be clearanced at Home Depot).

i have a soft spot for flashlights. by soft spot, that means i am getting obsessed.
i have a streamlight polystinger for the home. it is 15 years old, and i just burned out the bulb. the rubber on/off button tore, so i imagine the torch is on it's way out. it is bright, reliable..but old school. it has an incandesent bulb. but it will still freak a racoon out. i have added to the arsenal, a cop-light. a 511 light. no battery. it uses a capaciter to store juice. goes from flat dead, to full charge in 90 seconds. LED, and BRIGHT as hell. complete blackout in a tunnel half a mile in the earth, i fired that thing up, and hardened miners were saying "WTF?!!!"" it was like the sun. that FENIX is great. i just dont trust all the lumen stuff. side by side, i usually dont see the proclaimed lighting numbers. and for a home light, i love rechargable stuff. the old maglight rechargable was fantastic back in the day. maglight had such a headstart on everyone. i wonder how they dropped the ball.?

Couple of pics
Here is what the Houston cop carried before the Fenix...modded Mag light.
![]() Here is the fenix...note the wide light beam outside the spot beam, the lit up tree in the distance. ![]() But actually, pics don't do the Fenix TK60 justice...ya just gotta use one.

![]() TridenX 750 OSP Here is what I have for night mountain bike rides. I have one on the bars and another on my helmet if I'm not with many others with bright lights. When there are seven or so out the whole trail is like daylight - but it still adds a whole new dimension a trail that you thought you knew. Also helpful for darktime poop patrol when I forget on trash night! I even provided stage lights for the family campfire variety show. The dim settings last 12+ hours on the rechargable Lithium ion battery packs.

Looks pretty bright, but how well does it work for beating on poor people and minorities?

+1 on the 3 pack of small LED flashlights from Costco. They are only about 3 or 4 inches long and put my giant Mag Light to shame with a very long illumination time on the low setting - don't remember exactly how long though. I'm also going to buy another 3 pack. Can't beat it for $20. I have one by the bed, the back door, & in the truck. It's true though that the Mag Light makes a better weapon.

You can get pretty damn bright headlamps these days too. I use a Princeton Tec Remix when I am climbing or working ropes courses. If I have it around I will use it working on the car too. Aim the beam and go to work.

Cheap super brighit light: Surefire G2 with a drop in LED unit from Brightflashlights.com. Its tiny and bright.
Talk to Kevin Hall about the Lumens Factory 250 lumen drop in unit. I paid $17 for my drop in plus the $39 for the G2. Kevin is your man. Troy

You can't beat the beam quality of the Surefires. I have the E2DL because I use it as my "running in the dark" light and my tactical light for night shoots. It is the best light I have ever used.
