Does ANYONE use Nextel any longer?
The holster thread got me thinking(mine goes in my pocket, BTW).
Nextel was the rage a few years ago but I have not seen anyone using one in a long time. Wouldn't the walkie-talkie be useful still?

thank god I don't see them anymore - used to annoy the hell out of me all the people that thought it was a good idea to use that push to talk crap anywhere and everywhere.
i should not be able to hear your phone conversations let alone both sides of it

I still use Nextel (boost actually) because it works where I live and go. I don't use the walkie talkie feature, matter of fact it is disabled on my phone. I detest that crap. Breaker breaker ya got your ears on

I use it all the time (push to talk). I work in the trades so it's a great way to communicate with co-workers on a job site.

The company I work for uses about 300 of them. I get one for free, Android version too.

I miss my nextel, I never used the PT but it had the best coverage in buildings of any phone I have ever used.

It was good while it lasted, as many subs used them and it was easy to reach them. On the downside, coverage sucked.

That's the one. Had it about a year now. It's not all that great. My drivers tell me I sound like crap, especially if i have background noise when talking to them. At the time it was the only Nextel/Android available, not sure if that's still the case.

Well there's the fact that they say it sounds crappy and then there's the internet. My personal phone is a T Mobile G2. The 4G internet on the G2 is worlds different than the Nextel.

Too funny and gave it up. Used it while in the trades and had its place. I would get a kick out of using to connect from an excavation site in Chicago to my brother somewhere in the LA basin.
Then I traded hats and worked for a company in Montreal and was forced into the Blackberry. So here I had all this on a Motorola 7100 (I think). Talk about (pun) jamming one with communications and billing issues. Jeez, it was nutz when someone merged with someone and my triple billings. Took four months of billing cycles for Sprint reps to realize they acquired Nextel and Nextel acquired Cellular One.... ??? International rates, this and that services, GPS, text, net, PTT, blah, blah... $400+ a month.... and glad it wasn't on my tab! |

I've got 40 of them for our field, supers and shop staff. They can suck at times but all in all they do the job. I've got an i1 Android but it still pales in comparison to the real smart phones.
The IDEN network is just plain outdated. Sprint is pushing phones instead of direct connect around here.

Many years back I went to a company that gave them to my team, the old motorola PTT Nextel phones. We hated it. Especially when you're on call and at 3am you hear some guy in your bedroom going "Hey, Masraum, you there? Wake up!"

+1 I use it at work all of the time. I work in a very large plant over 800K sq ft. It comes in very handy.
