Cadillac CTS V10

My next door neighbor is a VP Marketing for Cadillac so he's always bringing stuff home.

This weekend is a metallic black supercharged CTS.

He just tossed me the keys.

Holly shiiiiiit that thing is an frikken beast.

Really nice car all around.

Solid, great handling, nice interior.

All it needs is a manual tranny.

The CTS-V is available with the 6speed. Maybe he can get you a good deal on one.

If we had the $$$ I would have the CTS-V Wagon, in silver.

Correct. Chevrolet does not offer a V10.

Unless he has something they are testing, it's a Supercharged V8 6.2L 556 HP.

I've got this for a while that Cadillac is letting me drive. Fantastic and that magnetic ride control is amazing!

Took it thru the Santa Monica Mountains this morning and then went up to Santa Barbara for a late lunch with the wife.

I sat in a CTS-V coupe at the Miami auto show yesterday. I've seen a few on the road, and they look like a larger Volkswagen Corrado.

My thoughts on the car:

1. The doors are about 5 feet long! And when they close, you can hear some rattling. Not the solid "clunk" you hear from even the cheapest Hyundai...

2. Rear visibility is WORSE than my 928. I'd be scared to back that car down my driveway, which....admittedly, is bordered by plants that need to be trimmed.

3. Once you FINALLY get the seat correct...the car feels pretty good. The location of the controls isn't quite as good as my 928, but overall not bad.

4. Materials in the CTS-V were pretty good, but the regular CTS left a bit to be desired; Too much typical gm plastic. On the -V there was suede on the seats and door panels; I'm not so sure that will stand up to much wear and tear.

5. Speaking of plastic...the tail lights on that thing are HORRID! They look like the cheapest material that gm could find, they looked tacked-on [especially the center light], they stick out stupidly, and the design is lacking. Really, the car in general looked plastic. The mesh grill looks like someone tried to hotrod their V6 Cadillac with a bunch of crap from Pep-Boys. Might as well install a bunch of plastic "port holes" on the fender while they were at it....

Overall, it is a nice car who's designers have for some reason tried to destroy. It goes like HELL, but just like the corvette, when you come down to it....it is a disposable car. It's amazing! They come SO CLOSE to finally building something truly good....but in the last second, they decide to stink it up~

N!

Sorry. The US does not make any car worth owning. They haven't since the early 70s.

On the wagon, looking thru the rearview mirror out the rear window "porthole" takes some getting use to. The outside mirrors are very good. There is also some kind of blind spot detection system, that I have not experienced yet. The back up camera is quite good and there are sensors in the rear bumper as well. I just had to learn to use the technology.

I'm kinda with mrm930, when I'm in the market for a new car, I look to Honda / Acura / Toyota. There's no US car I even think about.

I sat in the CTS-V sedan at the car show in December and was impressed. It seemed on par with any of the German cars at the show. Sadly the outward design does not float my boat...perhaps because it is a favorite for the Hip-Hop community. It has to be one hell of a fun car to drive though.

Can't argue with the performance...

But they just don't float my boat enough for me to actually consider buying one. Ever. As they stand now, the CTS-V's are really ugly to my eye.

I'm seriously considering purchasing a V-Wagon.

I just sold my pristine 23k mile 1988 928 S4, and I want to replace it with a V-8 powered sports wagon. Only 2 choices available in the genre: Benz AMG, and the Caddy V-Wagon. The Benz can be had second hand for quite a bit cheaper (since the Caddy only came out in 2011), but I find myself drawn to the V for a few reasons:

1) Available manual trans
2) More HP
3) Go USA!

The Benz certainly has a classier look overall, you know it will age well. I'm not sure about the V-Wagon, but I do like it. I have a feeling that once I drive 556 hp mated to a six speed manual, I'm not going to care how it looks.

A new 2011/2012 Mercedes E63S (wagon) will break $100,000 (only options $6K AMG Performance Pkg and $2K LSD) to compare with a $69K Cadillac CTS-V. So even if you buy a USED Benz, it will likely still be more than a new Caddy V. Plus you can get a manual in the Caddy. And a 100K mile warranty, standard. And options for awesome Recaro seats.

***** all you want about how some items or treatments look 'cheap' to you, but it is $30,000 cheaper. That's $30 grand. Thirty thousand dollars....

American cars have come a long way in the last few years and this Caddy is a good example.

I'll take a manual transmission wagon with 500 plus horsepower any day. I'm the soccer mommy from hell!

I think Americans make a fine product. Have for awhile. My wife grew up driving Japanese, me German, Italian, American and Japanese. Trying to forget the british experience.

My wife's 1st car was a 280, she also had a 240sx, k car, Pathfinder, exploder and now a Tahoe.

She loves the Tahoe better than the others. Personally I like it as well. Quality vehicle.

If you had driven that CTS you'll be singing a different tune.

Looks are subjective but that thing will stomp on just about anything.

It's in a league where the difference is not the car but the driver.

Here is another good reason to look at the V over the Benz. No way it can top the LSx mod potential.

I really like the look of the new ones but I haven't seen a wagon yet. I did check eBay a few days ago and all of them were still new and looking for dealer markups. I doubt there will be enough wagon volume to make them a good used buy.

jwasbury, why did you ditch the 928?

The 928 is an amazing car. Seriously impressive car, and got more impressive the more i drove it. I love it, but it made me realize that I want that kind of performance, comfort and luxury in a vehicle that has a bit more utility. I have the 930 for backroad burning and track days. So I put it up for sale with the intent of getting a V8 uber wagon as a replacement. Sold it just last week...only took about two weeks.

I just drove a CTS-V coupe tonight. The dealership doesn't have any V Wagons on the lot. Wow! nice car! It had the manual trans, sounded great, drove great, stupid amounts of power. Got wheelspin at speed easily. The thing is a beast. Almost as good power to weight ratio as my 930...almost. Of course the 930 doesn't have Bluetooth or iPod integration or....

Next up...going to look at a modded Benz E500 wagon with a 40k of Renntech mods including Supercharger. A true sleeper...all wheel drive too. Asking price just above 50% of a new V Wagon.

$30k on a $100k car isn't all that much - it'll depreciate that much in the first 12 months. Heck. $70k car can depreciate that much in 12 months too. The depreciation curves on new cars now are flat-out stupid. A person would be a fool to ever put themselves in that position.

I wonder what the Caddy CTS-V REALLY costs once government (taxpayer) subsidies and other accounting gimmickry is factored in.
