This is the only (original) Yellowbird.
The rest are CTR conversions. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320418516.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320418552.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320418583.jpg |

On the white car at the top, would have to get rid of the huge "Ruf" decals on the hood and doors and the '"Yellow Bird" CTR' decals on the doors. Yeah, it should be yellow if it says "yellow bird" on the doors. I'm not sure I want the extra complexity/cost of the AWD system in mine. I'm sure it would be better for me, but I'd rather have rwd only thanks. |

The one I listed is a CTR and whilst it is not the original Yellow Bird it is a real CTR. A lightweight one too! My opinion on Steve's car is that it might have a CTR spec engine but it is not based on one of the original unnumbered 89 tubs it is not a CTR. Ruf is a tuner so there are many versions of Ruf cars out there. |
Excellent summary.

Bad paintwork
Horrible tire choice (for a RUF) Bad description Cheesy graphics This guy didn't deserve to own a RUF BTW, RUF cars come with RUF VINS and this car has a Porsche VIN It's a 'real' RUF in the sense that it was built at the RUF factory, but not a RUF in that it is not a RUF car, it is a Porsche that was converted by RUF When the Beddors had it, this was the schiznit They have amazing cars I used to see their short wheelbase Gruppe B Audi Quattro here in Minneapolis from time to time back in the day. What a beast! |

But the one I'm referring to was a Tornado Red shorty they would drive almost daily |

Who knows, though? Since it was essentially a prototype that would never be sold to the public, maybe they used something they just ahd laying around. The point was that a Carrera tub (or an SC tub, which was essentially the same thing) bears no relation to a 964 tub. JR |

JR, even more reason for it to be something other than a CTR.
We spoke about those cars when I visited Ruf in the 90's but I cannot recall all the details. |
I looked at buying a Ruf car in the late '80's. I was more interested in a BTR, since Ruf was able to get them certified for the US. A CTR wasn't ever certified, although a guy managed to import one into Canada, if I remember correctly. The BTR was a slower car, although a lot of the things that were used on a CTR could be ordered on a BTR. I still have a couple of the brochures.

As a family they tend to do nothing half-assed so the car/track hobby morphed into a long relationship w/ RUF and the rest is history. I watched Steve pass a 962 on the straight @ Fontana a few years ago during the CA. festival of speed in his 964-based RUF car. I thought it was a CTR but after reading this thread I'm not so sure that I know my RUF terminology anymore. I have gotten to meet Alois Ruf with Steve, though, what a nice guy. |

Obviously the car works wonderfully, but how do those intercoolers get any airflow?
