I'm just saying, if I'm going to drop that kind of change for a car called a "Yellowbird" the damned thing better be yellow.....

speeder 11-03-2011 08:52 PM

That's the same car as the one on eBay. Bought new by my cousin.

daepp 11-03-2011 08:58 PM

Very crappy eBay write-up for such a car. Just sayin'.

Porsche-O-Phile 11-04-2011 02:01 AM

Paint it yellow and get rid of the silly graphics and I'd maybe consider spending $50k+ on it.

But the pine tree air freshener hanging from the mirror STAYS!!!!;)

javadog 11-04-2011 04:47 AM

That's an example of what pisses me off about the world. "Yellowbird" was a nickname given to the first Ruf CTR. It wasn't even named that by Ruf.

This car has nothing, nothing, nothing in common with a CTR. Why call it that?

The Beddors should know better, so maybe they have no connection with the sale.

You may want to look a little closer.

These seem pretty similar to me.

The car is on consignment at a shop near my house. $120k will buy it.

Sidney,

Not everyone wants a yellow car. Ruf made them in several colors and I for one would rather have something other than yellow...

EDIT Cannot believe that they are trying to sell a car like this with a "air freshener" hanging on the mirror... and first thing I would do is take the cheesy decals off of the rear decklid and doors.

Well, let's just say I've seen the original car and examined it in detail, so I know a fair bit about it.

Let's start with a few easy facts for the armchair quarterbacks:

The original CTR was built on a chassis from the 3.2 Carrera era. This thing is built from a 964 chassis, which has very few parts in common with the previous generation of 911.

The original CTR was rear wheel drive. This one is four wheel drive.

See any problems yet? Wanna keep going?

But this is a car built by Ruf for Steve Beddor. It is a Ruf car but not a CTR in strict sense (not a carrera based car)

That's true. The Beddor family owned several Ruf cars over the years. This one isn't a CTR any more than a BTR, or an RCT, is a CTR. Ruf built a bunch of different cars over the years. Aside from those, you could have a car modfied by them, or by one of their dealers, and you could build just about anything. They had lot's of options...

With all due respect javadog is correct- a 964 4 wheel drive car is not a yellowbird. That 4 wheel drive system pushes like a Honda and isn't known for it's reliability. Ruf made the original a two wheel drive car for very good reasons.

I always thought THE original Yellowbird was built from an SC chassis.
