What's the most valuable thing you own?
Besides your house(s) or cars... Doesn't necessarily have to be monetarily valuable.
Just one. |
my health
|
my family
|
Most valuable is my wife... but I don't own her (thought sometimes I feel like she owns me)
I have a solid gold Hamilton curved rectangular watch from the 40's that is probably the nicest thing I own. Guitars... hard to chose... I have an old Yamaha electric like Carlos Santana played back in the 80's... and an old G&L that was early production, tele style pickups in a strat body. |

You don't own your health, kids or spouse.

Maybe nothing, then. I've got stuff that certainly has sentimental value and is irreplacable. But in the grand scheme of material things, those are not really that important. |
Right now, my Les Paul copy.

Ya really think I am going to post that here? Ha!

"Own," I think, implies something physical.
I guess mine would be my house. Own it outright, which is financially nice, but also mentally comforting. Everything else (physical stuff) just is what it is. No single thing is monetarily worth all that much by itself. I don't have anything physical of much sentimental value. I don't know where my wedding ring is, I haven't worn it for 19 years and don't miss it (been married over 20 years). I guess it's supposed to have some sentimental value? Doesn't really, to me. I was never into the "ring thing" to begin with. I have a lot of pictures of my kids growing up. I don't look at the pictures much now, because my kids are still at home. I guess some day I'd be bummed if those were all lost or destroyed. But I don't really look back at the past much, so I don't know. If one "owns" one's education and experience, that would be by far my most valuable thing. Pretty much ensures (has so far, at least) at least a comfortable living, or a lot of money if I were the biggest priority of my life. |

But you knew that. :) The most valuable thing (just one thing, right?) would be a hand-me-down from family that dates before the twentieth century. I have a few. So, both monetarily, intrinsically and sentimentally, that's it. Like Joe says, I'm not really going to say what I have. |
a gold date/time rolex presidential. it is worth bucks, plus it was my dad's.
just bought a new toy that is making me reconsider that. pics in a few |

As stated above, house, family, health, good name, credit rating.
Used to be my Aston Martin DB4, but I sold it, so the cash in the bank. My Inuit art collection of soap stone carvings which date from the 1950's. Perhaps my 1930 Rudge Whitworth Grand Prix Ulster, it supposedly finished 6th in the world cup at the IOM. Complete, original, unrestored and runs. |

I own my own happiness.
It is my decision to face my life and the setbacks that inevitably come with it, with a positive attitude. To wake up each day ready for the joy that it brings me. I am happy. I own it. angela |

You have to strip everything affording it, Angela.
The correct answer is the heart. |
Interesting how many people here think they can own another person...
Or for that matter that we "own" anything... a hundred years from now we will be gone and the things we think are so valuable will have passed on to someone else... maybe even someone you don't like... or even never knew for that matter. |
I think you're looking too much into it, Scott. Substitute "have" for "own" (as most of us seemed to have done prior to motion's correction) and it doesn't seem so weird.

Sorry, working a double shift, late and tired.

Stuff I have..
An original Peter Max print Brass Led Zeppelin Swan Song belt buckle from the 1975 US tour given to me by my dad. Original silverface Fender Deluxe Reverb. Lots of really cool old SK and Snap-On tools. Some truly bizarre leather-bound books from the 19th century on phrenology, alchemy and "the order of man" An original Zap Comix by R. Crumb. |
I still have the same answer following the prescription. Material things matter not.
