Not that difficult to deduce really. The entire university system would say that personal morality is just a tired old convention to be cast to the wayside.

IE; What happens off the field shouldn't matter. Just don't get caught.

This attitude will come back to haunt all coaches. Especially ones who won't investigate one of their own caught up in a pedo accusation.

I'm sitting here watching HLN with my wife while their disecting the Bob Costas interview last Night on Brian Williams Rock Center. This is what just hit me/us...

Mike McQuery as it turns out is a hometown kid. Grew up not far from Penn State, Sandusky has known him since he was a kid, Sandusky knows the family and has been friends with his dad for years. McQuery worked his way up through the system of the Penn State football program. Quaterback, manager, assistant coach. A McQuery's email that has been discovered includes a fairly cryptic message..."the whole truth hasn't come out yet"

Is it possible however horrible this has been...McQuery walked in on Sandusky in the shower and flashed backed to an incident between HIM and Sandusky!

Isn't also possible that the reason that he is being "protected/spared" by the DA's office and Penn State is because he has ALREADY come forward as a victim.

Something to think about....

We ( football fans ) have been told for years Joe is mentally sound.

"He's the best coach ever. A real specimen with regards to his mental state. He's brilliant, sharp as a needle, walks to work every day. Don't touch his age!"

I'm just waiting for those supporters to say "Hey, Joe's 84 yrs old. Give the guy a break. He had a senior moment and can't be held responsible for his lack of action."

What a complete loser. He's now one the biggest jokes to set foot on a football field.
Tressell was roasted because he sat on knowledge of his players getting free stuff.
Joe should be burned in effigy. No question. I say again, look at how he reacted to the news the last 2 nights of his career. Standing in front of his house, smiling, fist raised, leading chants/cheers.

And where was Sandusky's wife when he was downstairs, in a basement bedroom, having his way with those poor boys.

This is just getting started. It's going to get worse and worse.

McQueary? A cowardly, shallow, self-serving example of a male. He's lost the right to be called a man. Fire him, now. If there were a way to charge him with a crime, he should be. And his career is over, too. Would you hire him, knowing what we know?

Yeah, yeah, due process.

Answer this, what if you walked into that situation? I know what I would have done. At minimum, I would stop it, call the police and campus police. If Sandusky resisted, I'd rest easy in a jail cell knowing I splattered that guy's brains all over the shower.
Speaking of shower, would you want to bathe in that room ever again? It should be gutted and relocated. And Joe Pa-thetic should pay to have it done.

What an asshat.

$100,000.00 is without bail? Facts my good man, facts please.

Now McQueary is saying he did stop it, from the article:

McQueary’s actions also have been scrutinized, with some suggesting he didn’t do enough after witnessing child sex-abuse.

McQueary told a friend from Penn State that he stopped the alleged assault and went to the police about it. The friend made an email from McQueary available to The Associated Press on Tuesday on the condition of anonymity.

Joe Paterno coached at Penn State for 64 seasons.

(US Presswire)
In the email dated Nov. 8 from McQueary’s Penn State account, the former Nittany Lions quarterback wrote: “I did stop it, not physically … but made sure it was stopped when I left that locker room… I did have discussions with police and with the official at the university in charge of police….no one can imagine my thoughts or wants to be in my shoes for those 30-45 seconds…trust me.”

Added McQueary: “Do with this what you want…but I am getting hammered for handling this the right way…or what I thought at the time was right…I had to make tough impacting quick decisions.”

Emails to McQueary from AP were not immediately answered.

I heard it reported as he did not put up $100,000 but is subject to paying the $100,000 if he does not show for scheduled appearance.

"District Judge Leslie Dutchcot released Sandusky on $100,000 bail this morning, a price that surprised prosecutors. The bail conditions required Sandusky to merely sign a paper and walk out, stating if he fails to show up in the future, he would have to pay $100,000."

Thanks for the correction, yes I heard that also.

Don't know why they call it bail, sounds like ROR to me, unless ROR is considered bail?

911pcars 11-15-2011 04:53 PM

Sad, disgusted, angry. It's been said and I agree.

Director, Barry Levinson made this film, "Sleepers" (1996), a story about 4 friends who were sexually abused as kids. Basically a revenge movie, but the script provides plenty of material to feel the full impact of their situation at the hands of sexual predators.

Yep, just life. Guess we need the bad stuff to make us appreciate the good stuff? Alas, the mainstream press seldom mentions the good stuff.

Last night's local TV said Paterno has a $500,000 per year pension with full medical bennies. Oh well, at his age he shouldn't be collecting it long.

I do believe he was. Look at his previous posts in this thread. He's just another mouth-breathing apologist for the child-rapist(s) employed by what would be just another 2nd-tier academic institution if it were not for the sudden media interest in the perverted filth on the payroll.

It seems to me a person, such as what Joe is portrayed to have been, would put the welfare of children above the welfare of a close personal pervert friend and the reputation of Penn State and his own legacy.

It further seems to me that a person, such as what Joe Paterno is portrayed to have been, would put the welfare of young troubled boys entrusted to the care of a close personal pervert friend wha was using the Penn State facilities for over a decade over the reputation of Penn State and his own legacy.

Or, Joe Paterno is not what he is alleged to have been.

Not even close.

Saw a report about a Second Mile summer camp.

They rented the camp ground for 4 weeks per summer for a couple of years.

Owner of the campground claims SM requested the curtains be removed from the shower stalls and there were several "activities" that involved cross dressing.

There sure seems like a lot of prejudgement here of many folks, some of which must yet be seen to be true or not. The latest McQuery claim of stopping the act and informing the police (if true - although now the police departments suggest it is not) is but one of the examples of a leap to judgement of inadequate response by posters here.

For now, this: "No one knows what the mindset was at Penn State that allowed Jerry Sandusky to exist all these years, but protecting the pristine brand of Joe “Difference Maker” Paterno is certainly a possibility." from It’s time to stop deifying college coaches - College Football - Rivals.com is the most accurate assessment of the known facts.

M.D. Holloway 11-17-2011 10:42 AM

I get the whole due process and fair trial and what not. Ya ya ya ...

The whole 'mind-set' argument is just good fodder for the defense. Frankly I think it is bullshyt. Of course we all know what we would do in a situation that required action. The fact that someone doesn't do what we all know to be the right thing suggests that they are hiding something or have a vested interest in the outcome.

That technique is used to provide a sliver of doubt so that you can get an acquittal. Its not pre-judgment it is judgment. Check your gut on this. The chances of this guy being clean and that Sandusky is innocent don't feel right for a reason. The gut is right more than it is wrong.

artplumber 11-17-2011 10:49 AM

Mike,
Somebody, maybe many somebodies are to blame. We just don't know who did what. And frankly it seems to me, it is just as likely that JoePa handed this off because he didn't know what to do with accusing his neighbor and longtime assistant, as it is that he was trying to protect himself/legacy. Let's face it, the guy is old and may not have much more together than a game plan with the same 20 plays from 20yrs ago....

Sandusky was a volunteer football coach at Central Mountain High School when he was reported by the school in 2009 when a boy reported to the Principal that Sandusky was assaulting him. The kid first met him through the Second Mile.

As many have said, this will get much worse as the story unfolds. Sandusky could be in the same conversation as Dahmer and Gacey. But the thing is, those 2 whackos essentially worked alone. Sandusky had his own "support team" from Paterno on down. I'm not saying they knew the depth of his psychosis. but they certainly ( unknowingly and unwillingly ) facilitated his actions for decades. He pulled the wool over their eyes and pulled it well. However, investigators and PSU staff knew enough to intervene many years ago. They didn't. Knee jerk presumptions are rampant. ( yes, I know the definition of irony )

Sandusky admitted to Costas on national tv, lawyer in attendance, that he showered with young boys. Also that his genitals touched them. Not a presumption there, just repeating what he said.

If that makes me an asshat, so be it.

BlueSkyJaunte 11-18-2011 08:42 AM

You're not an asshat, Don. You're just prioritizing silly things like ethics, morality, and upstanding behavior ahead of rooting for a particular football team. Clearly something is wrong with you.

Sandusky finally re-arrested and in jail with a 250k bail.
He's inmate 11-1709 and was wearing a Penn State jacket as he was taken in.
More than 50 charges including six 1st degree felonies.
