Lizard Queen

We are told to encourage our children in whatever interests them. My kid likes to catch lizards sooooo we got some cages to house them. If you like catching them then you will love keeping them.
They have been pretty good pets and are easy to handle, dont make noise or a mess and are cheap to feed.
My daughter does seem to have a special power over the lizards ands is able to "make them go to sleep". She turns them on thier back and rubs the belly a few times and they are rendered helpless. Strangest thing, they wont try to run off for quite a few minutes.
Here are some pics of her practicing the dark magic.

Believe it or not, rabbits act much the same way. As kids we used to call it hypnotizing the bunnies.

And yes, she's a cutie! What a fun time of life!

Cool!!

A guy I worked with at a pet store used to do that with rabbits. I never got the hang of it, though.

It helps if you hit them in the head real hard before you hypnotize them.

Your kid and mine would get along great! Every year we go to a camp near Prescott that has massive boulders scattered around. My daughter spends every spare minute tracking down the lizards that live around them.

This one was just hanging out in our back yard:

Divert her attention immediately at the first sign, should she become interested in Lounge Lizards. They are no good.

bivenator: Thanks for the awesome post - your daughter is obviously very down to earth - one of the best qualities a human being can possess, IMHO. Never knew about the putting to sleep technique...that's AMAZING! Keep up the good work!

Lee: I'm sure you and your daughter know that is a Chameleon your daughter is holding...I used to have some for pets and they are very fascinating creatures....here are some of mine:

Don't have children myself but here's my niece with my first Umbrella Cockatoo, Willoughby, when she was about 8 years old and visiting from South Florida - she's always loved animals and grew up with them in our family....she's now headed to college with a scholarship to study Marine Biology - I'm a very proud uncle!

Kids benefit greatly from association with animals!!!

Oops.....I stand corrected - guess that's why I plant plants for a living and am not a zoologist!

They do look like Chameleons a bit....thanks for the correction, Lee!

Anoles do that because it upsets the blood flow within their tiny brain.

-The green anolis carolinensis are getting rare in Florida; They used to be everywhere, but now the brown-only anolis sagrei has kind of chased them off. Give your daughter an eye dropper filled with water, and have her hold it in their tank in front of them with a drop of water hanging out. These things are always thirsty, and will literally crawl over each other to get a drink.

We in south Florida have a rare lizard called the Cuban knight anole, and this guy is about a foot long, with a very short tail, so he's big. Bright green, but you DON'T want to grab him- he's got teeth and can give a nasty bite!

N!
