Retorque them while they are hot, repeat that process several times- that should end it.
if all else fails get bolts drilled for safety wire and lock them in pairs. However I've never needed to do that. |
Aluminum intake? You need to use a dab of Loctite on the bolts. Common problem.
|
It is not the intake bolts getting loose it is the exhaust manifold bolts.
|
Re-torque the exhaust fasteners after heat cycling them a few times. Should be fine after a couple turns.
|
Bolts with lock tabs are your friend on any exhaust header/manifold install. I can't remember who makes them but I want to guess ARP.
|
I had pretty good results with ARP, even though I checked that at every oil change and at least one was usually a little loose.

I am sure everyone on the board has been waiting for a update on my project. ;)
The new dual exhaust system had a resonance at 2,000 RPM that made the entire vehicle hum. It was the worst at 50 MPH while just cruising along. Most of my 8.5 mile daily commute is at 50 MPH and 2,000 RPM. I went by the muffler shop and he added a 12 inch resonator to one side. It should be called a de-resonator much like folks say sway bars and they are more like anti-sway bars or stabilizer bars. Anyway the de-resonator has helped a lot. Now it does not have the 2,000 RPM waaaaaaaa resonance but it has a mild rumble that is not objectionable. I plan to go to the dyno sometime this week. I need to make an appointment with the dyno and I will post my numbers. |
waiting for Dyno...so, the manifold leak?
|
I re-torqued all the bolts. The ones close to the firewall were the only ones that had really loosened up. I will try to find some locking bolts of the proper size and see if that fixes it. Most of the bolts seem to be for headers.

Just another update. Everything is running great.
I have an appointment tomorrow for another dyno run. The exhaust system seems to be doing it's job. After several tanks of gas with the new dual exhaust my gas mileage has gone up almost two MPG. The puts me almost back to when I was with the 305. I had to replace the power steering pump this weekend. Since the engine swap the PS belts would scream occasionally. I had the belt as tight as I dared to get it. The new pump is nice and quiet. Getting the pulley off and back on is a pain. I don't think I would have been able to do it without an impact wrench. Tomorrow I will post my new dyno run results. It will be interesting to see if the dual exhaust really increased power. |
staying tuned...

Welp, here are the results....
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330453648.jpg The text is hard to read so here is a close up of the results: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1330453793.jpg Nothing to brag about for raw power but I was never looking for that. That is real world rear tire power. One thing that is good to get is the air fuel ratio for the run. For sure it running rich. I will get my chip modified to cure that. The overall driveability is great. I have a video of the run. I will post that shortly. |
OK, here is the exciting dynamic award winning video. OK, I have not won any awards for it YET. ;)
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zwTD0ukklkU?version=3&feature=player_detailpage">< param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zwTD0ukklkU?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object> If you watch it full screen you can see the throttle open up when he floors it. |
Sweet, how is the driving experience compared to the old 305?
