Okay Paul, have you been influencing my kid? :)
My son told me tonight that he wants a Mustang because they are "as fast as rockets".
"But Jake" I said, "we have a 911". "Mustangs are the fastest cars in the world, Dad". "What, have you been talking to Paul in Oregon?" "Who" "Nothing son". For the record, he thinks that any red car is a Ferrari and any version of the new pony cars are Mustangs. This post is not intended to offend anyone who owns a Mustang or Paul (pwds). It is rather a "kids sat the darndest things" type of post. I'm just glad my son is finally taking an interest in cars at all.

lol!
The greatest pool player ever, Willie Mosconi, started playing at a very young age...had to stand on a crate to make a shot. His record in 14-1, also known as "straight pool" stands today...526 without a miss. Anyway, a pic for your youngster...tell him he's right... ![]() ![]()

At about 10 yrs Zack had a thing for the new Corvette. My Teutonic gear head buddy got LOTS of mileage out of that one... Thankfully at 14 he has moved on and now lusts for a WRX STi...which I sorta would love to own as well...black without the wings and things of course.

I thought the Corvette was the one that is as fast as a Saturn V, or so the commercial wants to imply.

Thanks for taking this in fun, Paul. Jake dug the burnout pic, BTW.
I know he's right and you know he's right but I don't need to tell him that, just yet.

Burnout? Or electrical fire?

One thing I always wondered was how do you do a burnout where the car is sitting still and the rear tires are blazing away? I understand if you modify the brake system for only front brakes but I have seen some what appear to be production cars do this. Are the rear brakes really that bad that the engine can overcome them from low revs?

Like I said, I've never done it...but I do think TORQUE along with the engine being in front is the key...

I take it an automatic transmission is a must.
Still does not seem possible without modifying the brake system or having a turbo diesel.

we used to call it "power jacking"
You hold just enough brake pressure to hold the car from moving and the torque is more than able to overcome the brakes

It's called "powerbraking". I used to drag race and it is used to heat the rear tires up for traction.
On the street it's used mostly for impressing your friends and annoying the neighbors. ![]() With an automatic you just hold the brake pedal down and floor the gas pedal. Once the tires start spinning, you can either let off the brake or just sit there and melt the tires to the cords. A manual gearbox is trickier but the same technique can be used once the tires get spinning. In my 94 Z28, Lt1 with a 6 speed, I could dump the clutch at about 4000RPM and powershift up into 4th gear all whilst the rear tires were spinning. Impressive to some but hard on the drivetrain. No, I absolutely DO NOT do this with the 911!!
