iPhone Sale/Trade-in at Radio Shack

you can take an iPhone 3G and $75 to Radio Shack and get an iPhone 4; it is cheaper if you sprung for a 3GS

They are running a "promotion" which likely means a new iPhone is coming out.

I figure $75 is an ok price to get the nicer screen, better OS and thinner, groovier iPhone 4. Also, the thing lost all my songs and all the non-std. apps I had on it. They were all free - but I figured I might as well drop some coin and get the new phone now.

BUT... every Radio Shack store in town is sold out...

Heard any rumors about a new IPhone coming out?

maybe one that works as a cell phone?

Interesting. The only thing about my iPhone I don't like is the poor battery life. I bought a Mophie battery case which helps a lot, but still not as good as my old BB. Then again, I didn't watch movies on my old BB.

At the time I got mine (iPhone 4, 32GB about 2-3 months ago) I tried to dig up any information on a possible 64GB device and of course it all was either wild speculation, rumor, conjecture or flat-out BS. So nobody knew. I just said hell with it and got the 32GB, which has been great. If a 64GB comes out now I really don't care. I'll hold on to this phone until they come out with a Verizon compatible version. There's really nothing wrong with the 32GB iPhone other than the ATT network, which for lack of a better word just plain sucks (lousy coverage, lots of dropped calls and "fade-out", etc.)

I'm considering some Apple and Verizon stock in anticipation of this (might be another year or more so I'm figuring it's not priced into the pricing yet). iPhone sales will go through the roof once this inevitably happens and millions of iPhone users can finally be rid of ATT. I'm on the fence as to whether I'd actually break my contract and pay the penalty (although I might) versus just waiting until 2012 and upgrading then - and going over to Verizon.

I might actually play both sides of that one and short ATT - I suspect they're going to take a beating once a Verizon-compatible device comes out. Their network, customer service and overall policies are simply dreadful. Overall the iPhone works great for most things, but the spotty and often "marginally adequate only" coverage on the ATT network is maddening at times. Contrast that to folks around here with Verizon devices (Androids, mostly) who have lightning-fast wireless Internet and all the rest all the time, pretty much everywhere.

ATT has really dropped the ball here. There's going to be no reason whatsoever for most customers to remain with them once their exclusive agreement with Apple expires.

I'd be happy if mine worked as a cell phone. What a huge backwards step it was to go from my Motorola Razor communication tool to this Iphone toy.

What are the conditions? Do you have to be eligable for an upgrade, extend your contract?

I'm dying to know this too. I HATE AT&T and can't wait to drop them as soon as Verizon gets the iPhone. So if this trade-in doesn't extend my contract, I'd do it.

Yes and yes and the iphone that you trade in needs to be functional, no cracked screen, cracked case, water damage etc..

Radio Shack have an online "evaluator" to judge the condition/value of your trade in.

Basically unless the phone is non functional you'll get the full amount.

They'l even give you $10 trade in for a non iPhone.

I was sweating it a bit since I cracked the corner of the screen on my phone. A few months ago a coworker had gone hiking and got caught in a deluge and his phone was toast so he gave it to me and I swapped the screens. His screen was fine but had a very faint "smudge" from the moisture that is only visible under certain conditions and I was sure the conditions in the store would be perfect to have it show up.

iTunes gets a bad rap and I have my issues with it but have to say that after the sync to the new phone it even remembered the Pelican page I was on last.

We've had cell phones forever - even had the old suitcase style cell phone.

Without question, the Iphone 4 is the worst phone we have ever owned. It is a call dropping pile of $hit. I would recommend a $29 tracphone before this phone.

This phone does alot of amazing things, but the problem is, it's a lousy PHONE. We're very upset that we have gotten rid of our land line, added another cell line and opted for an Iphone 4. What a disaster. There is literally no way to hold this pile of reeking electronic excrement in a fashion that allows you to speak AND for the wretched thing to get reception.

We usually wind up throwing it on the table and using any one of the other cell phones. Don't bother complaining, you'll just be told you don't understand how to hold this complicated device properly. Clearly it's OUR fault that the phone drops calls.

Keep your older Iphone. Much better phone.

Are you sure it's not ATT that is the problem? My iPhone 4 seems to have modestly better reception than my iPhone 3G. I do have the bumper case, was free w/ the iPhone 4. I didn't notice any particular change w/ and w/o bumper, but a co-worker with the iPhone 4 claimed there was a difference.

My call-dropping problems have gone away. I used to drop calls constantly in my office, but no longer. I assume ATT upgraded capacity at the local tower.

Triangle area here in NC is totally cleaned out. iPhone 4, 16 and 32GB, are $149 and $249 respectively. Trade in (in my case) a clean 16GB 3G, and get ~$75 trade-in value. That'll get a $75 16GB, or a $175 32GB. Not too shabby. Oh well, I put myself on the waiting list.
