What car would u most like to have...

back because you sold it? Mine was a 1958 VW Beetle which took me across Canada and back(6800 miles in two weeks) in January of 1966. Froze my petunias off but was utterly reliable and fun to drive. You regretted selling your ..... for what reason?

Cool thread. I'll play...

I had a Fiat 131. It had rear wheel drive (live axle), and a dohc 8valve 4 banger. It wasn't very pretty (puke yellow, if I recall), but it had personality and was quirky. Fun to drive and pretty rare. Pretty easy to work on as well (like when the power steering pump went, I cut that belt off with a kitchen steak knife and drive it for years w/out the pump, which I thought was better!).

I regret never owning a Bug!

Interested to see other responses.

This is supposed to be a car that you used to have but don't anymore and would like again. You had the above car?

Don't worry, I almost got caught in the same trap.

I didn't have it long, but I did have a '69 Buick Riviera that was in good shape that I'd take now.

The cars that I had that I loved the most were my first which was a '65 Chevy Impala 2dr 4spd, and my old '88 911 targa. The only reason I didn't say those two is that both were getting a bit long in the tooth. If I could have either back but in really good shape, then it would be either one of those in a heartbeat.

The 65 was tons of fun with the 4spd, V-8 and 4.10 gears. And that was with a fairly weak V-8 that a PO had gotten from a junk yard. It had a 2bbl carb and was probably a 72-74 low performance model, but that car was still surprisingly quick.

I LOVED the 911, but I'd want one in good shape that didn't need any work, and at 160k miles, that one was going to start needing all sorts of work.

I had a 1979 Corolla with a 5speed and RWD. It was my first car. I would like to have it back for an afternoon.

I had a 1973 Mustang that I bought when I was 17 and was going to "restore". With no money and no proper place to do it and no tools. I never really got to drive that car. I sold it for $700 (what I paid before buying random parts). The guy restored it, but I never got to see it done, I was in college.

I had a Cherokee that I really liked. It was nothing special, but I liked it since it was high up, I could roll the windows down and the wind noise wasn't too bad and it was just "noisy". Once I discovered nicer cars, I realize how bad it handled. My son's car seat didn't fit well so we sold it. I really did like that thing though.

This one I sold four years ago, kept it a year, it had 110k miles on it when I sold it, all numbers matching 365 hp 327, 1964. and then there is the 89 Targa I sold a couple years ago but don't want to talk about it.

Tom please tell me a bit about your MG TF. Being an ex-Brit., this kind of car fascinated me. I had a TR3, MGB and old Mini. Who tuned the carb(s),was it reliable and was it fun to drive?I was always impressed by owners who could keep the cars going. I did not have too much patience 1) if parts were hard to get or 2) unreliable.

I had just turned 24 when I purchased my first real nice 'almost new' car, a 1969 fuel-injected TR-6. I still miss that car to this day.

Cheers

My 69 AMC Javelin when I was in HS.
In reality it was a POS and worthless back in the 80's.

1974 Mk1 Ford Escort. It was only 1300cc but only wieghed about 8 or 9 hundred Kilos so went like a little rocket. Especially for those days LOL.

I used to go surfing at one or two remote breaks and used to drive it rally car style there and back on the gravel roads. Ha, I came to grief a few times but that didn't slow me down.
