Tourist Feared Of Being Cannibal Victim

"When girlfriend, Heike Dorsch waved goodbye to her boyfriend one morning, nothing was out of the ordinary. German-native and avid round-the-world sailor, Stefan Ramin was in tip-top shape giving her no reason to worry when Ramin arranged to go on a traditional goat hunt in the forest after dropping anchor at Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia last month.

The couple had set sail back in 2008 on a journey to sail around the world in a catamaran.

Stefan Ramin was an aquatic sports man; he indulged in everything that one can do on and under the water. Deciding to do something “different” wasn’t out of the blue, as Ramin wanted to experience this journey and all that it had to offer to the fullest.

However, when the guide returned solo, Hieke Dorsch new something was amiss. The local guide named Henri Haiti told her: “There’s been an accident. He needs help.” shocked by the news, Dorsch’s natural reaction was to run into the forest to aid her boyfriend, however her effort was derailed, as the 37 year-old Dorsch claims Haiti chained her to a fence and proceeded to sexually assault her.

After what seemed like hours she was able to escape and alert authorities, sparking a seven-day search for Stefan Ramin as well as a manhunt for travel guide Henri Haiti.

On the seventh day of the search, a crew of 22 police officers, found remains in the embers of a campfire that were believed to be those of 40-year-old Stefan Ramin. Among the embers were bones including a jawbone, teeth and melted metal – believed to be fillings."

You have to watch out for the vicious man-killing beavers.

It's little wonder...

that when my wife and I go anywhere it's American plan. Call me chicken but I like the tried and true. I thought that kind of thing did not happen anymore. Ottawa in the summer sounds good, San Fran. in the winter.

Bah, the guy was killed and cremated. They didn't mention anything about gnaw marks on the bones or the bones being found in a pot with some potatos and veggies. The whole "cannibal" thing sounds like a way for a reported to "kick it up a notch". You could easily say "the guy was a suspected cannibal" even if you were the only one that suspected it and still be fine and have a story that would get LOTS of attention.

The cruising life isn't what it used to be...sad but true.

I think I could envision this guy knawing on a thigh bone. He even has an alleged cannibal tattoo.

They (in Ottawa) prefer to keep you alive and consume one (Canadians) little by little...very practical.
