Wanted: A trustworthy fellow Pelican in the US to help me out. Mountainbikers?
Well if you are reading this far then it was either the word "trustworthy" or "help" that got you curious. Please read on...
Here is my problem - I am a keen mountainbiker that lives in New Zealand (bottom righthand corner on most world maps). I order a lot of parts through US online bike stores and they are great - much cheaper and very fast postage. The lastest thing I want to buy is a particular Fox Racing Fork I have seen at cambriabike.com. The only problem is that Fox put international shipping restrictions on their products so they can control the global prices. The fork I want to buy is USD$599 - that same fork here would be double that. What I need is someone in the US that I can have the fork sent to (this eliminates the international shipping restriction). I would then send you the funds to on-post the fork to me here in New Zealand. You can see why I used the word "trustworthy" because the risk would be all mine. For this reason I would prefer a Pelican that has higher post count or history on the board. If anyone out there can help or suggest alternatives I'm open to suggestions. I am aware there are companies out there that do this kind of service as a business but I have yet to meet anyone who has used them and can vouch for their integrity. Thanks for reading and please PM if you can help |

I'm game. If I understand it right, you just want to ship a fork to me, and then I ship it to you? No fuss no muss?
I'll send you a pm in the morning from my laptop. |

I really appreciate the offer.
Yes it would really would that easy. No risk to you. Fork would be fully paid for. And you don't have to send it to me until you have received the postage money from me. Only potential hassle for you would be telling me how much that postage from you to me would be? I'll wait for your PM. |

Don't put much stock in all those posts, they are mostly BS...
![]() But there are quite a few Pelicans that will vouch that I am a good guy, and I've done business with a few of them. |

Just so you know, and this is a very rough estimate, but it looks like it will be almost $200 USD to ship that fork.

Are you sure cambria won't ship that internationally? The calculator on their shopping cart gives me a price...

I've done this before for Aussies, so I suppose doing it for a Kiwi would be okay.
![]() One thing I'd suggest that you check first would be the size limitations on sending things through the US mail. If you exceed their sizes for a Priority mail package, it gets bumped to a more expensive service (which means they have Fedex ship it for them) and the mailing cost increases to an absurd level. Got an dimensions on the forks? Cheers, JR PS: I can vouch for Sid. And, I know where he lives... |

Did you ever notice when you buy certain items like dell computers the specifically ask you if you plan to send this out of the country? Not sure how the would ever find out or why anyone would say yes.

That has to do with export regulations of computer and encryption equipment to "roque" states like DPRK and what not... I'm sure it won't be an issue for mountain bike fork.

Not a big deal, I would do it if Sid didn't.
The risk is not to Sid. He'll have a very expensive fork in his hand and is being trusted to ship it forward. Remember that a good fork can be $600, with some even more than that. The absolute worst thing that could happen to Sid is be out a few bucks for shipping, not even that if the agreement as above is to hold it until shipping paymenet is received.. The NZ gentleman could be out the cost of the fork plus the initial shipping. Just for the record, I consider Sid to be a good egg and have full confidence he'll forward as described. angela
