The new IRL 499.5 car

NOBODY hates the IRL like I do, but I was sort of hoping the new car would be somewhat interesting... looks like my wish came true.

I understand body panels are open (to mods). That right, or to spec only?

Wow. Looks terrible.

But remember what we all said about F1 cars the year Button/Brawn won the championship? Those cars looked catfish ridiculous at the time, too. Now, not so much.

Yeah, but cool looks doesn't necessarily translate into fast.

In F1, form always follows function, but many forms fail, and this could be one of them, but they're mostly due to bad hunches and/or theoretical/testing flaws.

They want to cover the back wheels so there can be lots more fender banging, You know rubbing is racing here in the U S A.

I used to love CART racing in the 90s, now not so much.

Everyone uses the same tub. Supposedly several companies are approved to make ground effect packages for the tubs.

The thing reminds me of a Shelby Can Am spec racer.
Oh that's right, IRL is just spec racing. Yikes

A new crapwagon is still a crapwagon.

Put 'em in the turbo Cosworths that Champ was running, add a few more street courses and fewer ovals and then I'll be interested.

This alone should allow teams to innovate. Who cares if it's a spec tub? The visual differences should help reduce the "spec" series perception. Let NASCAR continue with that strategy. I even have a problem with the Porsche Cup (spec) series. Difficult to differentiate.

Agreed. And with what, 3 engine manufacturers, I'm looking forward to next season.
