Coach found dead under weightlifting bar

BRADENTON - A Manatee County coach was found dead in his home Wednesday, trapped under a weightlifting bar, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Don Vautrinot Jr., 41, was a coach at Bradenton Christian School.

According to the sheriff's office, Vautrinot's daughters came home and found him trapped under 260 pounds of plates on a 45 pound bar Wednesday around 5 p.m.

They called a neighbor, and called 911.

According to a sheriff's office report, Vautrinot had been suffering from a cold, but was otherwise in good health.

The report says he ran a marathon and a half marathon in the past three weeks.

A sheriff's spokesman says the death appears to be an accident, but an autopsy is pending.
