Video card question
I've got an older video card in the desk top and watching anything on youtube it's rather jumpy or fragmented.
My wife played a music video on her phone and a movie for me and it was so clear , like watching TV . My question is are cards much faster today than a few years ago ? (I'm not a computer dude,I'm lucky to cut and paste) I would be nice to watch video in real time. SxS |

Yes, cards are much faster, but what do you mean by "older"?

Hell , I just realized this is my back up computer , this card and puter might be 5 or 6 years old.
Lost the newer puter on a power surge after a storm. Might be time for a christmas present for SxS. |

Hard to say. At 5-6 years, it could be a basic video card, with little memory and nor GPU and it's seen better days. Most video cards that old should be able to play YT video...

This is true, to an extent, but not enough info has been given. My 5 year old laptop does video just fine as well. If it happens to be a cheap PCI card, well....

I can see you're point. If he plugs the monitor into the motherboard connector and tries again ,might it change? The card itself might have screwed the pooch...

Yeah, my guess is that there are apps running in the background that are sucking up resources that are causing the problem. Or, possibly the network performance sucks on the PC.
Most PCs unless they are REALLY deficient on RAM should be able to play something like a youtube video. If the video plays poorly, my guess is that the OS is bogged down (using too much processor or memory) or the video isn't getting to the PC fast enough which could also be the PC being too busy doing other things to listen. Is it on wireless? What OS and how much memory? If you look at the running tasks how many do you have running. How much processor utilization do you have?

We have an Athlon II 1800+ with a GeForce 2 GTS on our TV for Hulu Desktop and it works fine. I wonder if it is playing Flash or using HTML5 on his. Flash has a high CPU usage unless you have a fairly new card where Flash can use GPU acceleration. The phones and other sff devices are probably isng HTML5.

Check and see how much video ram you have on that card. Right click on your desktop, click on properties, then settings, then advanced, then adapter. It should show much much memory the card has. Let us know the info on the card and we can tell you it's too old and slow
![]() I just upgraded my video card a few weeks ago. Since my system is so old it doesn't have a PCI-E slot so the best I could do was an AGP card with 512 mg vram. Not that great but a whole bunch better than what I had before. LOL check me out, I almost sound like a 'puter wonk. BTW at the risk of getting slapped, I have a new in the package MSI N210-MD512H 512MB video Card that I can't use and will let go cheep, I'd prolly take $20 plus shipping. Details as follows: Quote:

Yes, I agree with the above stating you have other issues, but to answer your question on video cards, if you are a big gamer like myself, they need to he changed every year at the least to keep up with the newer games demands.

Well I opened this topic late at night and needed to go to bed (if you've seen me then you know I'm not getting enough beauty sleep).
Ran out of time this morning , I'll see what I can find tonight. Have a feeling you guys are right, somethings running slowing it down. Also lately I've gotten the message virtual memory too low several times. Thanks for the help so far and I'd be a player Sammey if azasadny hasn't squirreled it away from you ![]() SxS |
