One of my friends sent me this.
Another product out of China that is causing harm. One of the brands involved in this, I have been feeding to my Toby since he was a pup up until he died. Now Im wondering if this was the cause of it. Did i kill my dog , giving him this stuff?? ![]() This crap is making me rage. when is it going to end?? We need to push manufacturers to bring production back to our country. The FDA finally got involved with this a few weeks ago. Chicken jerky recall 2011. Treats from China are making dogs sick! | Veterinary News Chicken Jerky from China may be causing Fanconi syndrome in dogs Added October 25, 2011: Even though this story was first published in June of 2011, we are still getting reports coming in of dogs getting sick and the culprit is suspected to be chicken jerky treats manufactured in China. Read through the comments section at the end to get more interesting discussion on this problem. Added November 4, 2011: I have just filed a report with the FDA and alerted them to read the comments on this blog. I would urge any of you who have a dog who you suspect is ill because of eating tainted chicken jerky to have your vet file a pet food safety report with the FDA. Added November 18, 2011: The FDA has paid attention! Today they announced a caution against chicken jerkey. You can read it here. There is no official recall yet, but stay tuned. And please leave a comment if you think your pet has gotten sick after eating chicken jerky treats. Note: The original article was written because some Canadian vets were suspecting that chicken jerky made in China was causing Fanconi syndrome in dogs. However, there may be more than just Fanconi syndrome now. Be sure to read the comments in this article to get the full story. Some Canadian veterinarians are noticing an increase in cases of Fanconi syndrome. The CVMA recently published this warning: Recently, several veterinarians in Ontario have reported cases of dogs that have been showing signs similar to Fanconi syndrome. All dogs in the reported cases had been fed chicken jerky treats that were manufactured in China. Signs of Fanconi syndrome can include decreased appetite, decreased activity, vomiting, and increased water consumption and/or increased urination. Blood tests may show increased urea nitrogen and creatinine. Urine tests may indicate Fanconi syndrome (increased glucose). The problem is that this can be confused with diabetes. Dog eating chicken jerky (photo by Charkrem, Flickr) What is Fanconi Syndrome? This is an uncommon condition. It affects the kidneys and causes them to leak glucose (sugar) and other electrolytes into the urine. Dogs that have this condition will usually be very thirsty and will urinate excessive amounts. The most common finding in laboratory tests is that the dog has glucose in the urine, but has a normal blood glucose level. Some dogs can be born with Fanconi syndrome. But, the latest concern is that there is something in Chicken Jerky strips made in China that is actually causing some dogs to develop this problem. Some dogs can get very sick and even go into renal failure and die. Other dogs will have an increase in thirst and urination and possibly have accidents in the house and then they may go on to have a full recovery within a few weeks of stopping the chicken jerky treats

Sorry in advance for the following, but it has to be said....
As a "Republican", aren't you fundamentally against government oversight of corporate food sources for dogs and humans alike?

This is pretty upsetting. I go to great lengths to provide the dogs with good food, no antibiotics, fillers, weird hormone crap, etc.
To that end, the treats are DOGSWELL Mellow Mut Chicken Breast clearly labeled no added Hormones, No Antibiotics, No Fillers, No Byproducts. Backside repeats that adding no BHA/BHT, no artificial flavors. Doesn't this just sound AWESOME? Isn't this what I should be buying for the dogs? Then in very, very tiny letters on the bottom it says "made in china." Like, how the hell do they really know what is in it? Well there goes $11. Pissed. ![]() angela

I broke my own parf posting rule, but China=Bad is not the best way to start a O.T. thread.
My appologies again for the blatent personal attack, Vinny. I thought for a moment it could be phrased as an ambiguous question. It was said the wrong way. Our dog is in constant fits of scratching and self-biting. Some could be neurotic Terrier behaviour, some could be fleas(which we found). It was also suggested to be an allergic reaction to his food... The last round of bad imported pet food was supposedly due to a Chinese international company that added deady chemicals which simulated protein content in U.S. lab tests, but contained no nutrients. Lot of cats died from liver poisoning.

From the article, it doesn't appear that the Waggin' Treats brand specifically is the issue. We don't buy/use the chicken jerky treats of any brand, just wondering - does anyone have other information?

The other issue you mentioned was with Blue Buffalo brand dog food. they found extremely high levels of vitamin d in the food and minimal nutrients. MBA , Waggin Train is one of the brands involved. another brand is Canyon Creek( which are both produced by the same co.) Tons of info on Google about this Heres a good link that details the brands involved. DogAware.com: Recalls that Affect Dogs

How about PPOTers agree to make an effort to avoid any product made in China. See my other thread regarding how difficult is is to find toys not made in China. Even if it means a kid gets 3 toys instead of 4, because they cost more made in America, isn't that still a good thing overall? This is way past the "tipping point". It has become insane.

![]() Most of the time, Chinese stuff is junk, because the company making the specs is going with the cheapest option. You mentioned electronics, China is making the highest quality LED's. We have not been able to source China's quality here in the US, eventually we hope to make our own. If you ask for top product instead of crap, China may be able to deliver, but most companies are going to China asking for crap, and getting what they ask for.

Part of the problem is our laws do not place any value on animal lives - even common companion animals like dogs and cats. I think the value is typically listed around $100 or thereabouts and liabilities for them getting killed is capped at that number unless you can prove it's higher (non-emotional reasons - I'm talking about things like receipts for a particular pedigree, etc.)
Pets need to have a more realistic dollar value associated with the value of their lives - especially animals that love us and we love in return and who add such richness to our lives as nothing less than members of our families. I view my pets as family members - nothing less.

we used to give this brand a lot to our husky and other two. We stopped using them some time ago, due to one of the big boys having digestive problems (not sure it would have been the jerky, but we could not give him hard to chew food at that time anyway)
ANYWAY, the husky was having worse and worse kidney problems, drinking a lot of water, which the vet attributed to age (she's about 12-13 but full of spunk) So since we had stopped the jerky, her kidney values have improved to the point of being fully normal. The vet could not explain it, but now we think we know why

This place is amazing!
We've just spent the past two days at the vets with our Schnauzer, who has been suffering from vomiting, bloody diarrhea etc, breathing difficulties etc—all the indicated symptoms of poisoning from this chicken jerky. And our dog never gets sick. $1000.- in vet fees later, Jack has been stabilized and appears on the mend. The vets could find no underlying patholgy (after conducting countless tests) and called this an "episodal" occurrence that resulted from eating something toxic. Well the only thing unusual that he's eaten was a package of Chinese chicken jerky that my wife fed him during the two or three days prior to his episode. We honestly try our damndest not to buy any crap from China—but this stuff had "California" written all over it—and only in the fine print could you read that it was a product of China. Thanks for posting this!
