2. People with dogs unrestrained(in the front seat area) or sitting on the driver's lap.
How is this NOT the same or worse than texting while driving?

-intersection gridlock.
-following too closely.
-speeding on city streets. (independent traffic engineers should set realistic speed limits on city streets, and those limits should be enforced with zero tolerance (except for me). Traffic citation fines should be limited to a flat $25, with state laws prohibiting additional fees. Insurance companies should not have access to drivers histories.)

If I lived in a civilized state, then "no insurance" would be on my list.

dui would also be on my list, if the limit was .10 (like it was for a hundred years) instead of the ridiculous .08% like it is now.

1. Drunk (impaired) drivers
2. Wreckless driving
3. Changing lanes unnecessarily and without signalling
4. Talking on the phone...

Run your numbers through the many blood alcohol calculators on line and you will see you are pretty high. Here's a couple:

A 210 lb male drinking 3 beers in one hour will probably blow in the .035 - .045 range

I am a LEO but I am not an expert on the subject like some of the traffic LEOs, but generally speaking, each drink is about .015, and you start eliminating alcohol as soon as you drink it. So those same three beers in two hours would put you .025 - .035 range. .08 is certainly higher than most people think

In Canada, the limit is .08. But for technical reasons, we cannot charge anyone unless we get two readings over .1

But back on topic, the driving offences I personally dislike:

Yeah, drinking and driving over .08
Driving with unsecured children
Speeding in school and playground zones (20 mph/30 kph)
Driving with an animal on your lap
And yes Moses, wearing seatbelts. If you saw as many injuries and survivable deaths from not wearing seatbelts as we do, you would want everyone to wear one too.....cause we love you too ; )

okay, i stand corrected. from what you are saying, i can have about 6 or 7 beers in two hours and not be legally drunk. even by my standards, that seems like a lot of beer to not be legally DUI.

Trust me, I'm no fan of "nanny state" laws, and I never wore a seatbelt( except in my open Jeep CJ) , until I started cutting victims out of cars wrecks on a regular basis. Changed my outlook real fast.

if you have 6 "beers" (12 ounce, not pints or tall boys, or stadium cups) between noon and 2 pm, and you get stopped at 2:05, even at 210 pounds, I guarantee that you are going to be over, way over, .08%.

I believe that the absorption rates that these online BAC Calculators are using as "constants" for rate of absorption, are flawed.

I have seen people breeze through field sobriety tests, and then blow .08 or .10. Their motor coordination was fine, as was their ability to understand and then carry out the field sobriety tests. The dead giveaway is the presence of horizontal gaze nystagmus and bounce.

the california highway patrol is ruthless. They could care less if you are "impaired", the only thing that matters to them is .08% BAC.

I have firsthand experience, administering a breathalyzer/alcosensor to myself at cop parties... .08% is surprisingly little alcohol over a couple of hours.

I've never not worn a seatbelt, but I think it's outrageous the state requires it, especially states that have no helmet laws for motorcyclists. WTF?

FWIW, in China I saw at least 10x a day people riding mopeds with toddlers in their laps, no helmets and usually talking on a cell phone while riding.

Not wearing a seatbelt = no insurance coverage for your medical bills. I mean, you are allowed to be stupid, but why should I have to pay for it? And please don't think that the cost is not transferred onto others...
