I used to love MASH. Great show. Col Potter was a big part of it.

He was a very kind, and humorous, gentleman.

I liked him in the Disney stuff he did (Apple Dumpling Gang, Snowball Express). He was perfect as Bill Gannon to Jack Webb's Joe Friday. Those guys just always seemed so constipated, it was hilarious.

Col. Potter, Hawkeye & BJ are in the Swamp at night introducing the new CO to the hooch from their still, and it ends with them singing, initially off-key, but merging into harmony as the camera pulls back from the outside of the tent:

And for those that were raised on MASH, recall that his first appearance was as MG Steele, the crazy general that wanted to move the camp 5 miles down the road because, "'M' stands for 'mobile'" and then tried to court martial Hawkeye for sending a chopper off with a patient instead of letting the MG use it. The hearing is called off after he asks one of the enlisted men (who happens to be black) for a song before he testifies.

Dang Byron....I was just going to post about Harry's role in "The Shootist" as the sheriff (who came close to getting popped by The Duke). That was quite a movie!

I used to watch M*A*S*H* every day after my day job (as a nursery grower) over a quick dinner before going to my night job (as a convenience store clerk at Cumberland Farms) during the first year after graduation from college from 1977 to 1978. I was living in the back of a house/efficiency in Lake Jem, Florida to save money and rode my bike to work even. Those were very significant years for me - and I'll always remember the Mash episodes I so looked forward to to get me through the week until I could drive to the coast to go surfing......

Rest in Peace Harry.....and thanks for the memories!

hah! I laughed out loud reading that.

I would put the first five or so seasons of MASH up against anything ever done, movie or tv. The general rule is any episode before BJ grew his mustache.

Interesting that I'm finding Morgan's passing to be affecting me a fair amount as I ponder it. Some of us of a certain age were likely "raised by TV," so this death is more than just "some actor."

I can remember MASH being on Tuesday nights. My dad had to go to Carlsbad city council meetings every Tuesday night for years trying to get a new smokestack approved for the Encina power station. Or at least that's what he told my mom . At any rate, with dad not home and my mom grading papers, there were many hours where it was me and the TV. MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart (the original one) - they were essentially part of the family.

RIP Harry.
