Is it or isn't it?
The parking stall on the right. Is it a handicapped only space? You can see the faded paint indicating that it might have been at one time and is no longer... But there is a "Handicapped Parking" plaque on the wall of the building in front of the spot. Well?

In AZ, vertical sign = handicapped parking = ticket if you don't have a tag.
Ask my wife how she knows. ![]()

is that Shadelands in walnut creek?
i've done ONE parking lot in my career. IIRC, the thing that makes it a handicap spot IS the sign. so my opinion. the one on the right is, and the one on the left with the symbol on the asphalt..isnt. crazy.

When in doubt just assume it is, not much more ticks me off than seeing someone park there who doesn't need it. I have almost gotten into fist fights about this because I am not polite when I point out that someone is a lazy ignorant P.O.S.

Handicapped only! Now the "handicapped" bathroom stalls, that's an entirely different matter!

Both are for handicapped use. The sign on the wall...and the painted area could be a space reserved for a wheelchair lift platform to set down on.
Laws vary from state to state. In Oregon some spaces are for cars with handicapped permits, and others, marked "Van accessible" are meant for handicapped equipped vans with wheelchair lifts only.

I'd say they both are, but I think the curbs in front should also be blue to further distinguish them.

The one on the right is not ADA compliant. The owner of your building might pay through the nose on that.

My guess is the one with the sign on the wall is a handicap spot the one just marked on the pavement is not.

The sign on the wall is enough for me not to park there.

Here in Fl neither of them are a legally marked handicapped spot - so if you got a ticket you could fight it and win
On the other hand, anyone with half a brain can see that it is intended to be one... so yeah, you can park there, but if you do you are a butt head

I'm with Paul - the blue vertical sign on the wall does it for me.

In Texas it must be clearly marked. If you have to ask I think you could beat a ticket. I still would not park there. Some dim wit marked the parking lot.

The one on the left has access to the ramp whereas the one on the right does not if someone has used the LH one. Therefore, it is either not HC or not compliant. Take your pick. I'm not saying the RH person can't walk around the back of the vehicle because the LH person has to anyway. But, that's not how the design works.
The best way to handle this is to make both spots into one wheelchair van spot. However, there may be a certain number of parking spots on the parking plan approved by the city. You do as they tell you to do and that is the way it is enforced. This comes from one who has submitted parking plans. Sometimes it's crazy. |
