Folks that live under the "HOLLYWOOD" sign dislike tourists who come to see the sign
Interesting video.
BBC News - Iconic sign causes havoc for Hollywood residents I can understand the frustration, but I'd be amazed if anything could be done about it. I wish I had driven closer to it when I was there. I saw it from the hill over by the observatory.

I've been to LA more times than I can count and only recall seeing that sign once. I would never bother driving up to it. It is nothing special and I think Hollywood is a dive anyway. Much nicer areas in LA to drive around.

Agreed, why would people even want to go there?

More than a few people have jumped off it. It's also private property owned by a Trust on LA City land.

Seeing it from the observatory area is good enough for me, but of course I want to see it and take my picture with it. Just like the video states, it's one of the most iconic signs in the world..
Someone I know took this photo of it: Hollywood |

My daughter used to rent on Beachwood, just below the sign. On weekends, the traffic was terrible. Lots of dumbasses parking in front of driveways.

Hey I can relate. We live near the end of the road on the N.Shore of Kauai. everyone that comes to the Island wants to check out this side of the island while here. I can totally understand. It is beauitiful, But what a drag to head out for Hanalei and find that you have fallen in behind a line of visitors that are driving 20 mph with their videos out the windows and don't want to pull over when the chance comes, but keep those of us that need to get some where behind them for the whole slow ride to town.
Sorry Rant over. Cheers Richard |

I used to hate going over there (one of my consultants' offices was on Sunset near there). Completely congested, crushing mass of idiots all packed into too small of an area. Not my cup of tea. I'd never live anywhere near there. Ever. Glad I no longer have to go there. Yuk.

The question I have for those people that complain (same with airports) is: Was IT there when you moved in? If yes, then too bad. You knew, so STFU, I don't care.

Pretty unimportant story, at any rate.
The Hollywood sign is a cool landmark. I've never had the urge to hike up and get close to it in 30 years of living here but then I'm pretty lazy. There was a big story about a year ago when a group of private donors bought up some land around it and made it a conservatory to save it from development.

I do a bit of work up and down Beechwood Drive. Many time, these idiots will stop and jump in the middle of the street and take a photo of their entire family just to get the Hollywood sign. they sometimes fly around there in those very narrow streets. Park in fronts of people's homes blocking driveways. You want a bunch of tourists or people walking up and down your street looking into your homes? Many of these homes are big and very expensive. i say keep em out and I don't even live there. One of my old client's home sits on a flat lot right on top of the very front section of those hills. the view is absolutely fantastic. It overlooks all of Hollywood right over the Fwy. This place has a long and really wide driveway with no house on neither side. What do we get in their driveway? Fooking people who have no respect that just want to catch a glimpse or even a family photo in other people's property.

No, it weren't like that 15-20 years ago. I went to high school about 3 -4 miles from there. I ran cross country and had logged miles up and down those damn hills. there were no stupid tourist that block driveways and stood on the street blocking traffic. To answer your question, the residents did not know. Those areas have always been quiet up scale residential areas with very little outside traffic.

The story indicates GPS systems have changed the traffic of patterns of tourists by taking them to different vantage points than used in the past. In addition, some very inconsiderate tourists are giving all of them a bad name.
