What's your favorite hot chocolate?
Do you make it from scratch, do you have a special mix, do you like a particular powdered hot cocoa?
How do you make it and how do you like it? I usually have it at work. I don't drink coffee, but every once in a while I'll have some. My favorite powdered is this stuff. ![]() I usually use 2 bags of hot chocolate per normal styrofoam coffee cup or 3 for the big cups. My wife makes hers using milk, sugar and Hershey's cocoa powder. For me this always seems like it's missing a little something, like maybe a pinch of salt or something.

I like most mix, as long as you use milk instead of water.

I don't drink coffee and occasionally order a cocca at a restaurant and coffee places to fit in once the shame is over. I had a beautiful one in Seattle on E. Broadway - Vivace. A work of art and delicious with steamed milk.
![]() My kids like to substitute milk in the Hot water types - those calories add up as you have the dry milk in the mix already. That being said, I like to add 1-2 creamer cups to bump up the richness and cool down the coccoa for quick quaffing. Flavored coffee creamers add a nice dimension. Irish mint and vanilla are my favorites. Occasionally I use the Mr Coffee espresso machine to steam milk and treat the kids.

This might be the best wintertime panty remover I've ever seen. Use sparingly.
2 servings. Ingredients: 5 ounces best-quality bittersweet chocolate 1 tsp. granulated sugar tiny pinch of kosher or sea salt 1 cup half and half 1 tsp. vanilla Method: This is ALL about the chocolate, so don't skimp. You know those big broken chunks you see in the case at a fancy candy store? Or maybe an upscale grocery. If you see a brand called Valrhona, buy that. Sorry, Hershey's just won't work for this. Chop chocolate, sugar and salt in a food processor. You can also just chop it up by hand if you want but get it as fine as possible. In a one-quart, heavy-bottomed, non-aluminum saucepan, heat the half and half over low heat, stirring often until it is steaming hot. Use a whisk if you own one. Carefully add chopped chocolate mixture a little bit at a time whisking constantly and keep cooking and whisking and scraping down the sides until it starts boiling. Should be pretty thick by now. Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla. Serve in 2 mugs and top with whipped cream if desired. Some people like to add a splash of Baileys or Grand Marnier but I prefer to drink the booze separately as it overpowers the chocolate. |

8 oz whole milk, simmering. Add 2-4 tbsp of Nutella. Stir until Nutella melts into the milk. Quite spectacular.

Lots of interesting recipes here. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate and mint. I far prefer chocolate chip ice cream to mint chocolate chip. I do however like Andes thin mints.
Anyway, not likely to add mint. But other than that, some interesting ideas.

Chocolate Chaud from any good French bistro. Here in Seattle, that means Le Pichet.
Dilletante, a Seattle-based chocolate company, makes a range of chocolate sauces from Milk to Bittersweet. Their darker sauces are to die for. (unfortunately only two of their sauces are listed on their website)

1/2 cup hot coffee, 1 tsp cocoa, 1tsp powdered sugar, 1/2 cup hot milk. Mix the heck out of it - til it foams a little. Drink it with a slice of buttered toast made from homemade bread.
