Jim, I was wondering about that..the speed limit control.  I think the salesman said my Bullitt was "electronically limited" to 151.  I know it has some kind of 2 piece driveshaft that's pretty heavy. It's unlikely to think the drive shaft would fail in such like it did on a Mustang, cause it has a transaxle that is housed in a bigass tube.. No a drive shaft out in the open to a diff like a Mustang has.. 
		
	
		
	
			
			
		
		
		
		
		
			944 transaxles typically do not fail in this way they will slowly develop noise from bearings that are failing... Not simply break on ya And yes they do go 135... I had mine up to 140 mph on the GPS or 147mph on the clock..

I had a 2012 Mustang V6 for one week as a rental, the entire car is tuned for MPG.  The V6 is a great motor but the automatic gearbox is terrible, it up shifts quickly and lugs the engine at 1200 RPM to maximize MPG. 			C6 corvettes do not have a speed limiter other than lack of HP My car is able to do 186mph in 5th or 6th. It just plain runs out of hp to go faster. 
		
	
		
	
			
			
		
		
		
		
		
			There's a law case from the '60's or 70's that started the speed limiter thing in cars. It seems that there was a Plymouth muscle car that had factory tires on it that some guys got running 135+ mph and crashed when the tires failed at speed. That's why our cars have odd limits of speed 98 mph for most trucks, 112 is common for sedans 154 for hp sedans. Cafe standards do have a effect on car safety. lighter, smaller brakes, narrower tires etc.

			Matt, I own a 2012, and while it is no BMW, it is a cool car for what it costs. As for the 6 speed transmission, it comes with 2:73 gears that will get you 31 mpg on the highway. However, unlike many other cars, you can order any number of gear sets up to 4:11 as an option. Or for about $300 you can retrofit any gear set you want. 			You can also order any suspension package you want, from the rental car wallowing pig, to the very stiff Boss suspension. Price is very reasonable. As for limited top speed? New chip solves that problem. The bottom line is you get a lot of bang for the buck with a new Mustang. How many V-6's are out there putting out 305 horsepower stock?

It sucks not being able to dive the car at it's potential on public roads so the Bonniville Salt Flats are one long days ride for me to get there. You have to wear a full faced snell/Dot helmet and a couple other safety items. You get a certificate. I know it is hokey but at least you won't get arrested. Has anyone gone that route?  |
