can you bring your dog to work?

i'm hoping i can. brought Harry in for a trial period today. he is being GREAT! my boss's dog is barking at everyone, and just dragged his ass across my office floor. good boy boss is in a meeting, and i am brown-nosing by dogsitting for a few hours.

Harry is not using the dog door i just installed. he uses it, but not to go pee or anything. he only passes thru when we ask him to. i want to avoid long unattended periods, so i am hoping to bring him to work. if he kicks butt today, maybe my boss will grant him access.

boss told me "no" before, but Harry is selling it. you guys work at dog friendly places?

Medical office (for people), so not exactly. Pets and hygeine aren't exactly synonymous. But I've taken the dog in for short periods before. Helps being a boss (with an individual office).

I can't take our dog to work, but I sure wish I could. Daisy is an incredibly well-behaved Golden Retriever. My friend owns ice rinks and he took his chocolate Lab into work with him, but the dog died several years ago. He's going to get another Lab and bring it to work every day. Being able to take the dog into work is a great thing as long as the dog is well behaved (trained).

I think my wife could get away with it at the harbor, but only on a leash and inside the office which is ground floor with access to the yard.

And maybe for one day. The idea of a dog running around with all the forklifts and trucks is a safety nightmare. She actually gets by better taking a grandkid.

Some people see their dogs as their kids or even people. Sorry dogs belong at home. When my lab was alive I would never take her into somebody's else home. Your perception of your dog and the customers' (and the boss!)can be completely opposite. Dog(s) would deter me from doing business there. Even if the dog was friendly although I the customer would not initially know it.

Tilly comes to my law office every day. I always have her kennel up when a client comes in, but most of them ask if she can come out to visit. She is very well behaved and has a sympathetic ear. Clients find her very calming.

I've worked in alot of places where dogs are in the office every day. Well mannered dogs are a pleasure in the work environment and reduce stress.

Last year, I worked with one of our driver-salesman in San Francisco. This was one of our office-coffee/vending machine drivers. We went to several very big name companies and there were dogs everywhere. One building probably had 40 dogs. It was heaven.

I hate going into places where dogs are brought in. Many of the places smell like dog/pet and then they try to lick you all over.

I like dogs, just not when I'm doing business.

That reminds me many years ago I left my dog at the dog kennel for boarding and several days later I went to pick up my dog although I arrived earlier than the dog kennel owner thought. As I walked up the driveway the "guard dog" came up to me and bit my hand and then it walked away. It was more like a junk yard dog. It was a large rottweiler. There are dogs and there are dogs. I never went back.

I take my dog from time to time. We have a woman who used to have her dog here every day. In our situation (business office with very few walk-ins) it's not a problem.

I bring our dog to work sometimes. He's pretty laid back, doesn't bark and loves people so I can get away with it.

Many non-western cultures consider dogs dangerous and dirty. My workplace is very diverse with a lot of recent immigrants from all over the world. My dog is clean and well behaved but I would be unable to bring my dog and be sure that nobody is offended or scared.

Maybe after I move to the Midwest and work at a machine shop.

Sometimes like this week say hi to Nanook. We don't have clients, or anyone that comes by (besides ups, and fed ex) so it's pretty lax.
