Sorry to hear of this, sounds like he was a good guy. 86 years is a good long life, in the old days it was almost unheard of. I talked to my Dad on NY day, he said that his goal is to make it to 80. (April '12). He has been in poor health for years due to cancer. He beat it but has never been close to the same.

It sounds like you are very much at peace with your Dad's passing which is good. You will miss him but I miss my, (young healthy), Dad and he's still alive. So it's relative...

But let me assure you, the feelings of pain and loss will eventually be replaced with fond memories of happy times. Please don't take the following as condescending. I mean it with good intentions. I hope both of you take a little time now to grieve and get a little personal closure. Combine that with the memories of the good times you had with them and be thankful for the amount of time you had. It always could have been much less time and worse circumstances.
