Land rover lr3 or range rover hse
On the lookout for a used land rover or range rover of 2005-2007 vintage for reasonable money.
Does anyone have a lead on buying direct from the various auctions? I'm in the northeast, but have no objection to buying from some distance away to save cash and find a rust free car. Vin |

Send an email or PM to kaisen, he's in the business and has found cars for others at auctions.

Tried kaisen, but no response yet. Given it is the holidays he may be busy, or i'm just looking for too much car for too little money.
Anyone else in the business? Vin |

I owned an '07 RR MkIII HSE, now running an '08 LR3 SE. Very different vehicles in some ways, similar in others. I can't comment on auction experience as I bought them both from a stealership but if you want to talk Land Rovers PM me your number and we can talk. Paul.

I'm going to hate giving up my 06' LR3 HSE next year, company car so it goes back, sadly. Maybe I'll buy it, I do love the thing.

There are quite a few LR3 and RRs out there, but the ones you'd tend to want are off-lease units and those are now typically 2008-2009. I will not buy a Land Rover or Range Rover at the auction from another dealer. Simply too many "bad ones" out there, and that's sometimes why dealers are dumping them at auction. In your stated price range you'll find a V8 LR3 2006-2007 with a little over 75K miles, or a 2005 RR HSE with the same. Simply stated, buy one you can see, touch, drive, and inspect. Don't buy one at auction unless it's such a "good deal" that you can set aside $3000 to fix the little things that weren't disclosed. Let me know if you'd like any other info or data, or comparisons to other choices for that money

Eric,
At what price point do the off lease units start turning up? I've got some flexibility in budget, and have no objections to a newer LR3 or RR HSE. Do 2008-2009's start turning up at the 30K - 33K price point? If your interested in lending a hand (with whatever markup you deem fair), can you pass along a phone number? Thanks Vin |

Yes, in the LR3 2008's would typically be under $30K, and higher mile 2009s would be $30-33K. You won't find a 08-09 Range Rover (that you'd want to own) for that

Eric, PM sent. No hard feelings if you can't help.
Paul, would you mind passing along a number via PM and a convenient time to talk? Vin |

Get the Range Rover, the interiors are sooooo much nicer than a early LR3 it does not even compare. Also, the look of a full size Range Rover is simply the best looking truck period.
A 2005 Range Rover in perfect condition with super low miles would be a great buy and would be in your price range. I did most work on mine and I do not find them complicated at all. Heres a pic of mine from this summer ![]() I just sold my silver RR ( my 4th range rover ) and will be looking for a supercharged model soon . Last edited by herman maire; 12-21-2011 at 02:49 PM.. |

I have purchased four (count 'em, four!) vehicles through Eric in the last year and a half. He is the only way I'll buy a vehicle in the future. Give him your specs and for a reasonable fee he'll get you what you want at a better price than you can find anywhere else. He doesn't work for free, but he only charges you if he buys a car for you, and I promise that even with his fee included you'll pay less to get the car of your dreams than a dealer would pay to get it wholesale. He's also more knowledgeable than almost any other car professional around and can steer you to the car that fits you best. And he takes care of all the paperwork. I hate paperwork.
No affiliation, Eric doesn't give me kickbacks. Just a very satisfied customer. |

The cool thing is, that RR will be worth about $1,000 in another 10 years. Nothing depreciates like a Rangie.

I am just going to point out that we settled on the LR3 instead of the Range because the trunk in the LR3 is actually usable. For a lot of stuff !!! RR, not so much... Depends what your needs are, otherwise the RR sport is a little nicer...

Paul, thanks again for taking the time to talk, and thanks especially for the links.
After some feedback from Paul, and a pair of back to back test drives, I'm on the lookout for a 2008-09 LR3. I'm glad to hear so many nice things about Eric (kaisen) I have a PM into him with the hope he is willing to track down a car on my behalf. I'm glad to pay a commission, especially if it winds up in the pocket of a Porsche brethren. Vin |

Welcome! Where are you? (Might want to add your location to your profile). Fyi, in '08 and '09 the numbers of Land Rovers going out on lease was way down from previous years. So finding the exact color/option combo might take a while. +1 that Eric is a stand up guy. I worked with him a couple of times, but ended up finding something that would work a lot closer to home. Post pics when you get one! Cheers, Paul.

For anyone who happens to be selling a LR3, I'm in Boston and after an '08 or '09. Preferably a SE. I'm not looking for flash.
Kaisen, I sent you a PM. I've narrowed down what I am after, and would gladly pay your fee in exchange for some help in locating a car. If you pass along your info and a convenient call time, I'll gladly get in touch. Vin |

SE or HSE? What colour combo are you looking for? I take it you'll want the cold climate package? Here's a few I found during a quick search; Used 2008 Land Rover LR3 in Hanover, MA | SALAE25478A476239 2008 Land Rover LR3 HSE (Excellent Condition) 2008 Land Rover LR3 SE >> 08 Land Rover LR3 >> SUV V8 SE You can also look at preowned certified... Land Rover Certified Pre-Owned - Overview | Land Rover USA If I were you, I'd be tempted by a California car, as the winters aren't as hard on a car there. Cheers, Paul.

To close this topic, I picked up an 08 LR3 with 39K miles for well under 30K. Couldn't fit the full size range rover in my city driveway (and I could find one for under 37-38K for a 2008)
The LR3 has a decent selection of options but it far from the full blown HSE. The biggest selling point was it is a CPO car, so I've got some warranty to look to should/when anything goes wrong. After 500 miles I'll admit to being happy with it. The interior trim is nicer than most similar priced SUV's, it is a comfortable ride with a nice driving position, it did a fair job hauling my 6800lb boat (a short distance), and the performance is perfectly acceptable for what it is. MPG is nothing to brag about (my Land Rover Defender 110 is better, which is a sad statement!) at 16 city/22 highway after 2 tanks. Thanks again to everyone who chimed in. Vin ![]() |
