Anyone Quitting Smoking? Considering Chantix?
If you are ready to quit smoking and your doctor has prescribed Chantix, I know of a (very) inexpensive source. PM me.
If you are wondering why I'm posting what might seem like (but isn't) a commercial message, PM me. Also, I will disregard PMs from anyone I don't recognize. Last edited by jyl; 01-07-2012 at 10:30 AM.. |

Just inform yourself @ whyquit.org , read the information, the train wrecks and the how to section..
Then quit cold turkey, it's the most effective way. Don't slow down don't substitute don't buy into the Big Pharma "you can't quit without our product" crap. Just quit. I've done so in May 09, i ain't never going back use the inforamtion on that site to your advantage Quitting ain't that hard if you use the tips at hand. Champix, Zyban, they are good at causing side effects, depression and making cash go away.. Informed Cold turkey is more effective, cheaper, less side effects

It worked for me, big time. I was down to 5 to 7 sticks per day and just frustrated as hell about not being able to quit (as in really addicted).
My doctor worked very close with me on this and I was aware of the side effects. I was lucky, the nightmares that can happen turned out to be some of the best darn dreams I had in a long time, I mean great stuff. I did not get edgy, so I was blessed in that area. Here is the deal that I really appreciate, my concentration is way up, TONS more energy, just feel better. I would say that one should give it a try and stick to the regimen, a minimum of three months. With time, you just don't "feel" like you "want" to take that smoke break and one day you wake up and realize you didn't have a "fag" the day before. My last cig was on October 12th at 1600, the next day I was humping the hills at Laguna Seca at RRIV. I am much happier to be off the things, MUCH HAPPIER. SO for all you guys with our shared habit, good luck! I am rooting big time for ya!

It worked wonders for me. I have been smoke free for over four years now. I can be around smokers and have no desire to have a smoke.
I don't think the side effects were so widely publicized when I took it to quit smoking. The only notable side effect that I had was very intense surreal dreams. The type of dreams that movies are made about. |

I went the Champix route just over a year ago after reading on here about the success Crusty Chief had. I was looking forward to the dreams....nada, nothing....A lady friend had a really bad reaction. The only time I want a smoke now is when I'm on my puter.

If you REALLY want to quit then just quit. Is it hard? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes.
I grew up in a time when smoking was 'cool'. Then I lived in Europe for a while where smoking is even more 'cool' and considered 'normal'. Trust me...once you stop...you will see how F*$%#ing stupid it is and looks. Good luck. |

Some can go "cold turkey" (I did), some need an aid...nuthin' wrong with that, but whatever you do JUST QUIT...then comes the really hard part. NEVER start smoking again when that urge hits ya further on up the road...we're now old enough to know better
. Good luck to all that still have that primate on your back!

Just curious and unrelated to the OP, but sticking with the quitting topic:
1. What makes quitting so hard? Addiction to the nicotine's chemical effect? Addiction to the ritual of smoking? Other? 2. What do people think about other quitting aids and tricks? Nicorette, regular gum, e-cigs, etc? 3. Is being a non-smoker inconsistent with cigars? With pipes? |

i tried it. whatever the negative side effects are, i had em. made me feel very unstable mentally, including feeling extremely suicidal. i got off it asap. couldnt handle it
the patch worked for me very well back in the 90's and i quit for 2 years....then relapsed the only way to quit is to stop. you cant replace cigarettes with a pipe or cigars...ive tried it. thats the same as quitting heroin and using methadone instead... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRRUwLepm3M

I have tried the Chantix and Zyban with undesireable side-affects. Tired the patch with some success. I actually quit for 6 months, but thought I could have that taste of a cig just one time. Wrong.
Now I am trying the e-cigs and so far (2 months) I haven't had a real cig. So it is like the patch but with the hand motions of holding a cig and puffing on the stick. But no nasty stuff from burning leaves. Next step would be to cut back on the amount of nicotine in the e-cig cartridges. So if someone is wanting to quit smoking, try the e-cig route. It seems to be working for me, finally. The best motivator is your desire to change. Some can go cold turkey some cannot. Get educated, get help but only the addicted can make it happen.

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances out there. That is the primary problem when quitting. 2 Nicotine replacements mean you stay addicted. It's like telling a heroine junky, "ok, don't shoot yer smack anymore, we'll give you a pill with smack in it" You basically keep the addiction going. But it's just not as good as the real thing. And don't kid yourself into thinking you'll slowly reduce the nicotine replacements. Cause that will trigger withdrawal symptoms just the same. It's just a bad way to quit, because the more you reduce, the worse you feel, to the point where you can't bear it and relapse.. You basically torture yourself by making the withdrawal last as long as possible.. Hence why Cold Turkey is so good, 24 hours and you are through the worst of it. 3 Cigars and pipes, well, you either inhale the smoke in your lungs Or you just run it though your mouth. I guess you won't get as much nicotine in yer bloodstream, but you are at risk for mouth cancer. Same with chewing tobacco. (though that will cause nicotine in yer bloodstream, albeit a slower way then inhaling).
