The MVP should have been Alabama #58 Gentry. He blew up LSU's line several times.. |

I like the regional bowl playoff idea - wouldn't that address IROC's concerns? It would not be perfect either (as some conferences are weak - those outside of the PAC-28 and SEC for example) but it would be much better. |

ps: Why discriminate based upon regions when most of the SEC would whup the NE (for example) year in and year out. Maybe the SEC regular season is already a playoff system :) |

The final two games of the season are flex games. It you are ranked in the top 16, the opponent in your second to last game will change. If you win, your final game of the season will be a quarter finals match against a new opponent. If you are a top 16 team, your final two games are part of a tournament. Tickets already sold. At seasons end there are 4 teams remaining. SO EASY to sell tickets to semi final games! |
Well, doing a playoff system might discourage musical conferences - just saying
|
Moses, I'd never seen any proposals like that before, so I wasn't aware. What you posted does indeed make sense and seems reasonable to me...therefore, it will probably never happen :(.

OSU lost to unranked Iowa State. Bama and LSU lost to #1 and #2 respectively. There is a difference under the system we have. The system worked - we saw the top two teams play for the national championship and the better team won. If someone has a problem with that - they are concerned with a popularity contest - not who is the better team. |
Alabumer scored even more points against LSU than the UO Ducks did; therefore, they deserve the Championship, free & clear.

In my opinion.....
The game would have been more competitive had LSU taken Bama more seriously. I think they came in under-prepared by a long shot. Bama on the other hand - showed they DID TAKE THIS GAME SERIOUSLY - and came up with a whole new offensive strategy - which worked. It also appeared the Bama players were better conditioned both mentally and physically. That's on the coaching staff. Finally - the better coach won the game. There are many more detailed aspects of the game I could comment on but those are the main ones that come to mind. We have a good system in place - the BCS system works. I thoroughly enjoyed all the bowls this season and look forward to them again next year. Lots of games went into OT and many others were not decided until late in the game. All the teams that are pissing and moaning about not getting into the national championship game had their chance and blew it. That is what makes it so exciting each and every week - unlike those sports with playoffs. ;) |
One thing for sure...as of now, every college football team in the nation is undefeated...;)
Bring on next season! :D |
It looked like another case of the underdog working hard and being prepared and better coached wins the big one. It's happened before.
As far as a playoff system- do you really think the bowl cities, sponsers and owners of the bowls will just going way? These guys earn a living putting on bowl games. I don't see bowls becoming playoff games anytime soon. |
I agree with all the recent posts...all are spot on. However, "some years", it isn't quite as clear who the top 2 teams are (lacking head-to-head matchups, etc.) and then, it isn't necessarily "fair" to a legit #3 to be left out of a chance for the trophy. This has been going on for years, and isn't gonna change imo...back to the $ tied into the current system. Who's to say it isn't the best...I dunno :).
ps: I'm not a football fanatic by a long shot although I do like SEC football. Since the games have deviated away from New Years day...I rarely watch the bowls anymore. Only caught the championship this year. I do NOT think that has been a good thing... |
