LSU shut out.... three way tie???

so does LSU being shut out bring OSU back into the title discussion since there are now three one loss teams??? Doubt it but the discussion should be better than the actual "national championship game"

rouxroux 01-09-2012 08:47 PM

No....TOTAL DOMINATION!!!!!!

...and that's quite an understatement imo!!!

Even though I think the rematch of "most boring game of the year" was terrible and the BCS is a joke, isn't that the point? One game, one winner, one champ? The idea of co-champs is a joke, LSU was dominated and OSU didn't even play in the game. Alabama is the champ, congrats to them.

playoff

Playoff system will never happen. No one would go to the games. Think about it. Your team is highly ranked (say, top 10). Your first playoff game is half-way across the country. Do you throw all of your eggs ($$$ in this case) into that one basket and travel to that game? Or do you hold out hoping they win and move on to the next round and try and make that game? Or the next? Do you risk missing out on seeing them play if you gamble and assume they win in the early rounds?

Most fans don't have the disposable income to travel to three or four playoff games all over the country during the months of December/January so the reality is that very few fans would actually attend these playoff games.

The current bowl system isn't perfect (and neither is the BCS), but I don't think we'll ever see a full playoff system.

Bama won it flat out. No co-champs and no play-off system would change it.

Good points. Besides, there already is pseudo playoff system for determining the National Champion in recent years...it's called the SEC :). I know "on any given day...", but imo, if a lot of these "other" contenders had to play other SEC teams week-after-week during the regular season...they still wouldn't be playing for the trophy. It is all about the money...always has been, always will be :(

You do 16 teams - split into four regional games (SE, NE, NW, SW)

2nd round you play for a regional champion ^^

Then you play for a East/West

Then a title game.

35 bowl games are a joke. That "championship" game blew

KFC911 01-10-2012 09:19 AM

Heck, I'd like to see a "playoff" even if it were only the top 4 teams (and not based upon arbitrary bs like having 0 losses if'n the competition is sub-par :)).

ps: How to pick the "top four"? All head coaches vote to pick 'em or something...

NEWS FLASH (New Orleans): The LSU team bus is STILL stuck in the Superdome parking lot. It sweems that someone painted a 50-yard line stripe in front of it.

Hey, LSU crossed the 50...once. Of course, they had to punt soon afterwards (IIRC).

Alabama put on the greatest display of defense I've seen lately. The old saw of "Defense wins championships" was certainly true in this case.

rouxroux 01-10-2012 10:06 AM

We did not have to worry about the "red zone"...lsu only had 4 plays in the "crimson zone"...It was like they needed to be spotted 50 yards each possession just to make it fair.

KFC911 01-10-2012 10:27 AM

Hey, I watched the game...it was simply a difference of field goal kickers imo. Saben had confidence in his kicker making them from the 25 yard line, and Miles didn't :).

When was the ball in a place that LSU could kick?

sammyg2 01-10-2012 10:56 AM

Did anyone catch the interview with Courtney Upshaw after the game? Talk about a guy who needs subtitles.
It's a good thing he's going to make millions playing football, he isn't going to have much of a career in the booth.

In his defense he was very excited and the adrenaline was flowing but still ...

Pretty sure he was referring to them both having to kick opposite directions from the same 25 yard line, not different ones on either end of the field.

That'd make it about a 92 yarder for LSU ... not even Tom Dempsey could do that ;)

I'm not a huge collage football fan... but my friend called me a said I should watch "the two best teams in football"

A field-goal competition wasn't what I was expecting.
