Sad News - Giampiero Moretti

Saw a tweet from Max Papis from earlier today. Apparently Giampiero Moretti died this morning. What a great personality and friend to sportscar racing over many years. Obviously known for the Ferrari 333SP in the 1990s, but MOMO was also known to the pcar crowd. We were fortunate to enjoy seeing him and his team race the Ferrari team in the mid-1990s at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen and Daytona. RIP.

Sad indeed, he was the ultimate gentleman/businessman driver and crowd favorite. His win at the 1998 Rolex 24 will always be a special memory of mine. All of pit lane lined up and cheered after his victory lap in the ultra cool Ferrari 333SP. We need to find his emotional podium interview, a stirring scene.

The driver and man may not be with us, but his spirit and love for auto racing will always be a part of motorsports. "Momo" rides with all of us who have that little yellow horn button fixed to the center of his steering wheels. Remember to rise a glass to him and speak his name ofter, one of the true "gentlemen racers"and nice guys! Enzo greeted him at the gates with a big smile and a warm handshake for his old friend!

Also saw something that said the Grand-Am crew is trying to get each of the winning cars together for the upcoming Rolex 24. One that they're missing is the Moretti 333sp. Would be a shame to be missing that one.
