Had an FBI agent pay a visit

When he walked in I thought he was an investigator from one of the local jursidictions. Plain clothes with side holster & ammo pouch. He waited until I finished up with a customer. I asked what I could help him with (thinking it involved something stolen he was looking for). But no, he was an FBI agent out of Fayetteville (AR). He handed me this

and said he was going to all the gun and pawn shops in the area. As I remember our conversation, he said this effort originated from the wealth of information taken from the Bin Laden compound. Not that he had seen any of those documents, just that this alert was being passed down to his office.
So I scan through his document.
I was somewhat at a loss as to what to say. I mentioned that I was familiar with the ATF's "Don't Lie for the Other Guy" program, which is also geared to about the same mentality (didn't say that though).
He seemed a bit embarassed about being there, I expect he would rather have been doing something else but he was probably the most junior member of the office (he looked about 25) and thus got the assingnment.
So, is this a nationwide effort on the part of the feds or have said terrorists decided northern Arkansas is the best place to purchase their firearms?
Jim

I would have told him to GET THE EFF U SEE KAY OUT OF MY SHOP!!

-If he didn't have any sort of warrant, then you were STUPID to even talk to this guy! I had a run-in with a neighbor a few years ago, and I had a local cop come to my place, one David Turner He was VERY aggressive, he wanted to confiscate my pellet gun because he thought I was shooting it at the neighbors houses [not true at all].

"We have probable cause!" he shouted at me. My response:

"Ok....if you have "probable cause" then where is your warrant?" That shut him right up. I laughed in his face: "Oh I see...You DON'T have a warrant, so you just thought you'd try to come over here and intimidate me. Think again *******!" And I said those exact words to him, my hands on my hips. You should have seen the puffed up loser cop suddenly deflate!

Here's some advice, to all of you:

1. NEVER EVER let a cop in your house. Even if you call on someone else, when they come, talk to them on the front porch.

2. NEVER EVER surrender ANYTHING to them unless they have a warrant. And a warrant for THAT exact piece!

3. SAY NOTHING. If you have a collision with another car, simply say that. "My car and his car collided". Leave it at that until you've talked to an attorney. Police are almost paid a commission on crimes. While it is not a real monetary system, they basically gain stature [and coin...] based upon how many people they manage to wring through the court system. Police are basically hunters for the legal system.

[don't feed them!]

4. I hate attorneys but they are your best friend when the legal raptors come hunting for you.

Cops will try to act like your friend- get this: A year ago, me and my business partner tried to buy a foreclosed home. The realtor representing the place told us to climb in the front window- we called the local police department and two of the local redneck bozo's came out there. They know me- my black 928 with its loud exhaust catches everyone's attention. We wanted the police to be there so that there would be no misunderstandings. I climbed in the front window, unlocked the front door. Guess who the cop was? None other than the same David Turner. He stepped inside, and instantly tried to be "friends" with me.

"Do you think they used their thumbs to separate the tiles?" He said smiling. While he was probably correct [ugly Mexican tile...], I said to him "Yes David" and walked away. This same turd-fondler WAVES at me to this day when he drives the cop car past me in my 928!

-I'm like "Have you figured out yet that I'm NOT YOUR FRIEND??"

LOL! The man's an idiot.

N!

And why was the FBI doing this, as opposed to the BATFE?

I'll make the wild guess that DOJ and DHS know people, especially FFL's, have a higher opinion of the FBI than of the BATF and are thus more likely to cooperate with FBI efforts.

And FBI is under Justice, not under Treasury...

BATF is also now under DOJ, not Treasury.

Hey... At least they're doing something. Reading through some of the info in the sheet it seems to be an exercise in education more than anything else.
I know if I owned a gun shop I would certainly help the authorities with anything related to terrorism.

You need to relax just a bit. These people are trying to protect you. The cops and FBI are on your side. Why not let them into your house?
I wouldn't have a problem with them coming into my property.

I know that DoEdu agents get loaned to the FBI and BATFE for extra man power to do things like this, or cordon off a large area or take statements from a lot of people... I would assume that the FBI either loaned someone out to the atfe while it was slow (unlikely) OR that since it really focuses on terrorists and not on firearms law/licensing that it really wasn't batfe's area and they told the fbi to go deliver it themselves.

Rick and red, if you have normy on ignore, you have to take him off to read the above post. It is pretty epic. Still chuckling.

Jim, I have a cousin working for the ATF. She is in AR. If you have seen her come in you would remember. She is pushing 350#.

Normy, I think there's a better life available through zen. You could have handeled it differently if you wish.
JJ, I'm going on memory, but re "... he said this effort originated from the wealth of information taken from the Bin Laden compound... " I think that's pretty close to what he said. Imagine how weird it was for me to be the focus of his visit.
David, I'm fishing to see if this was a nationwide effort. I know he made the rounds in my town.
rb, myself I'd rather see the FBI. Perhaps someone else will know if it's a turf battle.
Rick, I'll sing like a canary if it keeps my license.

I don't know how effective that flyer/outreach is, but it does make sense that the FBI would be interested in people behaving as described there - suppose we say it is 2000 and it is a flyer to flight schools asking them to look for people interested in learning to fly but not interested in taking off or landing . . . there are indeed bad people out there . . .

I was going to forward this thread to some spoon friends including my son. Then I got to Normy's post. I would be too embarrassed to let non-Pelicans know that I belonged to a group that included such posters.
