Tony Bennett et al
As I have gotten more mature I find myself appreciating the music my parents used to like. Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Etta James etc.
This is good stuff. If you missed it you might want to give a listen. It's free on Pandora radio at pandora.com |

They are all great and very enjoyable to listen to. There is no expiration date on great music. Or great anything else.

What's wrong with white shirts and skinny ties? Classy.
I've also found my musical tastes "maturing" over the years. I'm now more into blues, but even more into serious jazz (esp. late-50s & early 60s). Miles Davis John Coltrane Bill Evans Art Blakey Herbie Hancock Oscar Peterson and lots, lots more. |

There is a Tony Bennett special coming up on the tube called Duets, he sang with lots of younger contemporary singers. I don't remember what channel.

I never was a Sinatra fan, but there's something about the Basie band arrangements and performances that make it far more appealing. Maybe our parents weren't as musically backwards as we thought. (Maybe part of it also my wife's influence. She comes from an Italian-American family where Sinatra was one of the patron saints, or so it seemed.) |

Hard to top a late night, some good scotch among friends, and Sinatra at the Sands playing in the background.

I grew up listening to all that music. Sinatra, Martin, Mills Bros, Doris Day, Perry Como, Bennett, etc. I still listen to it a lot, especially when wrenching or doing something that takes concentration. It brings the aggravation level way down.

Good music is good music and I think it transcends time. Roberta Flack's "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" gives me chills just like "The Pod" does from Hum.

Mike, that song by Roberta Flack gives me the chills as the first time I heard it was watching the movie Play Misty For Me. That movie still sends shivers up and down my spine.

Bennett blew it about a year ago when he showed the world what a kook he really is.

I agree so much. Here are two of my fovorites:
The best is Tom Jones' Delilah Red Russian Army Choir & Leningrad Cowboys - Delilah - YouTube A close second is Tennesee Ernie Ford's 16 Tons Red Army Choir, "Sixteen Tons" - YouTube Can't go wrong with the classics.
