Share44Email.....Students at a new Utah high school are facing disappointment after their choice for a new school mascot was rejected for one of the strangest reasons possible: Board members deemed it might be seen as offensive to middle-aged women.

So what about the Fighting Irish, or the Cleveland Indians?

Some could deem those as politically incorrect.

Remember the Tampa Bay Devil Rays? That is a name for the Manta Ray, I believe, but now they are the Tampa Bay Rays, as in rays of sunshine.

Yep, the reactions to school mascots and team names are funny. When a new coach came from the mainland to run the football program at U of Hawaii he could not handle the team name the Rainbow Warriors. Changing that was the first thing he did. I guess the Gay inference of the word rainbow put him off.
The name was very popular and it took years for fans and sports commentators to make the change and stop calling them the bows in news casts. Funny now that coach is gone but its just too hard to go back to the old name I guess.

Cheers Richard

I thought taking the name of something was a sign of reverance.
Hmmm. What demographics is that board composed of?......
