Another Cop story, but with a twist
I know that I have been pretty hard on the cops in some of my posts, but I actually like cops, quite a few of them I consider friends. I just don't like the ones that abuse their authority. Around here they treat everyone fairly. Maybe because we are a smaller town and they have to live here. Anyways, this happened yesterday and here is how the people in my town react when a cop is assaulted while trying to do his job:
JC police officer assaulted during traffic stop Updated: January 19 10:33 p.m. A Jefferson City man with four driving while intoxicated convictions now faces a fifth DWI charge and four other charges after police say he became out of control and fought with an officer Wednesday. Two passers-by came to the officer’s aid while he struggled with the suspect after pulling over his vehicle in the 900 block of Rock Hill Road. At about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, officer J.M. Thomas stopped Quentin Michael Davis, 47, after witnessing his Ford pickup truck lock up its brakes and swerve to avoid hitting a vehicle that had stopped in front of him while waiting to turn. Thomas, who has been with the department for five years, said in a probable cause statement Davis exited his vehicle after being told to get back in the vehicle. “I could tell that Davis was under the influence of something due to his actions and speech being incoherent,” Thomas wrote. After Davis acknowledged he didn’t have a driver’s license and exited the vehicle again, Thomas said he tried to handcuff Davis, who walked away after being ordered to put his hands behind his back. He continued resisting arrest, then began wrestling with the officer. “I went to retrieve my radio to call for backup, and Davis managed to reverse our positions in the struggle and got me onto my back,” Thomas wrote. Two people came to assist the officer, and one tried unsuccessfully to restrain the suspect. A third person, a woman, used the radio in Thomas’ police car to call for assistance. Police released the tape recording of the call. Thomas put his arm around Davis’ neck to “apply a vascular neck restraint” on Davis, who then bit the officer’s right forearm. A second officer arrived and helped put Davis under arrest. The officers and residents sustained minor injuries, police said. Davis was charged with felony driving while revoked, felony driving while intoxicated, felony resisting arrest, third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition to prior DWIs, Davis was convicted of driving while revoked or suspended in 2001. He is being held in the Cole County Jail on $15,500 bond.

Good for them. If I saw a cop wrestling with someone, I would absolutely help the cop. And I have, more than once. Even if it was SWT.

Speaking of assisting... what is that "banned" comment under Rot911's name? Did something happen overnight that we do not know about?
