blowing most everything way out of proportion.

(perhaps it's what's missing...like the future economic analysis, shutdown of the government, potential world war iii, and other such unimportant events?)

Too much to list ... hence no TV at my house. Best lifestyle decision I ever made ...

Watching the reporter nod his head while the person he is interviewing is talking.

schamp 01-25-2012 03:37 AM

I hate it when they, what I call "talking" they give the news and then look at the other person an start talking or discussing the news item as if we care wtf they think about it. The fit the definition of idiot experts.

Completely ignorant reporting on aviation accidents!

"Weather service has upgraded Springfield's blizzard from "winter wonderland" to a "class 3 kill storm."

The desire to have a "scoop" for any of the news shows is the biggest problem. They will over blow a house fire to make it the top news story. It might be a big news story for the family that was living there, but I really don't need to have regular programming interrupted for a house fire.

I think it is the same mentality as the folks that slow down on the highway and cause a traffic jam because someone is on the safely off the side of the road changing a tire.

yep, they're good at that.

I have lots of pet peeves but probably the one that irritates me the most is when the national news channels essentially give us an ad for a broadcast they are doing later that night (for example: 20/20). In thirty minutes of news one only gets about 18 minutes of "news" because of all the advertising. Then they run 6 minutes of the 18 minutes on what one would think is news but is actually a "teaser" for a later "one hour special" on the subject. Drives me nuts.

exc911ence 01-25-2012 06:29 AM

The fact that if it's not bad news, it's not news.

I would love to sit and watch an hour of good news if such a thing was available. It might just make the world seem like a better, happier place...

I was in Portland OR. over the weekend... must have been a slow news weekend because my cell phone kept lighting up "are you OK?"

It is Portland... it is raining... whoo hoo!

No flood, no snow, no delayed flight.

How about the blatant bias and political agenda applied to most stories? And the choice of what to report and what not to report?

Police shoot a criminal? The story is about how the police must have screwed up because of racism, mistaken identity, etc.. The fact that the criminal was in a dark jewelry store after hours with something in his hand doesn't make the story.

Gangbanger shoots a gangbanger? The story is about how the kid was practically an honor student and his gang affiliation isn't mentioned. Then they trot out the local gun-violence activist with the mother of the dead kid to plead for tougher laws.

Homeowner shoots a home invader? The story is ignored.

cairns 01-25-2012 08:36 AM

I haven't watched them in years they're so disgusting. But I agree with every point here- particularly the bias and the over dramatization. I'll add the fact that they think they're celebrities in their own right (hearing Katie Couric whine on an airplane- I was seated right in front of her- is beyond disgusting).

What also used to bother me (particularly on the local news) is the chattiness over BS and the we're all a happy team here when it's obvious they hate each other's guts. Just read the news and STFU.

Besides Matt Lauer should just die. Period. I don't care how.

Yep, that is it.

Bingo! Would sell their mothers out for a story. Shoving microphones & cameras in the faces of a family suffering a personal tragedy is atop my list..

LOL! The johnson creek area of Portland...floods there pretty much every winter. Yet the local "liberal views" stations treat this as a big event. If it makes national news?...yeah, we get the "are you okay?" questions...and we live about 100 miles South of Portland.

My biggest pet peeve is people incessantly whining about the the mainstream media. If you don't like it, don't watch it. If enough of you don't watch, their ratings will drop, and things will change. They are in business to make money, after all.

azasadny 01-25-2012 09:52 AM

I get my news online and I haven't watched TV at all since last spring.

I'm tired of hearing that any gun crime was committed with an "automatic assault weapon"!

Burnin' oil 01-25-2012 10:03 AM

I don't watch any news. I used to watch local news out of Sacramento but got tired of the constant stream of murder and mayhem.

It seems that each day has ten or fifteen minutes of actual news but ten or fifteen hours of time to fill.

cmccuist 01-25-2012 10:35 AM

I hate the way they pay the newsreaders millions of dollars for what? Do they really think that anyone cares whether it's Dan Rather or Brian Williams or Kathy Couric reading the freaking news?!?

Their shows are circling the drain, but they still paying the "anchors" crazy jack as if that's the only thing keeping their audience turned in!
