Nice set!

I have a 14 inch Wuhan china with a thin Meinl splash mounted inverted on top. I use a nylon nut to control how tight they are. I can get some unique sounds depending on where I strike them. It sounds like a "chopper" mixed with a traditional China.

I drilled some holes in the Wuhan to cut some of the decay as well. They are pretty inexpensive so I didn't feel bad.

thanks! yeah, I think I paid $50 or something for the Wuhan from amazon with free shipping. I was thinking about drilling and riveting it just to switch it up a bit.

my first kit, which I still have, is a rogers 13-16-22 Holiday series that was originally owned by Wayne Newton's understudy's band. that's next on the plan for restoring. I've since sold my DW and Gretsch kits, from my earlier posts on this thread

WOOHOO!
I stopped by my local drum shop whilst going to lunch with my wife today. I scored a Pearl rack setup and a 14 inch Zildjian China Trash for a very good price.

When he told me the price I looked at my wife and gave her the "I really want this" look.

I will post some pics up later once I get it configured.

That took a while. My stands are a mix of brands so some of the tilter tubes fit the rack's clamps and a couple didn't.

I got creative with multiclamps and worked it out. I am digging the new China Trash, too. It's got a really fast decay and not too "gong-like" like my 18 inch Sabian.

The only one I like to date is actually a Sabian hi-hat top - has a higher pitch and a quick decay than other splashes I have tried. I just can't break tradition and use a hi-hat for such!

I replaced the tom mounts with Tama ones. The Gibralter rail is fine but their mounts have a weakness and failure mode that I don't like. Tama provides a better mount and at $30 each what the heck...

thinking about selling it...any takers?

I stripped and painted my "Beast" snare. 14x8 Ludwig that started out as a rack tom that I bought with my kit back in 84.

I wanted something different so I used the same Graphite color that I used on the 911 wheels earlier this year. With a matte finish it has a pretty good industrial look, I think.

I moved the cymbals around again. I tried mounting my ride up higher like some have it but just couldn't get comfortable. I guess it's destined to always be low and over the kick drum.

Thanks Art! I finally went with Evans heads for the toms. G2 clear and they sound great. I switched to a Remo Powerdot for the snare at the same time. Oh, and I tried a pair of Vic Firth 5B and absolutely love them.

Good timing.. I'm looking to pick up a kit soon. I literally haven't played in over 30 years but I am getting the itch again...

Back then everyone had Ludwig kits, (i had a nice stainless set) but perusing around Craigslist, I don't see too many of them. Seems to be a lot more of Tama, Pearl, a few Yamahas and a lot of brands I have never heard of! Whats good out there today?

Nice kit Embraer!

Rattlsnak- Depending on what you want to spend you can find great kits from the major brands like Pearl, Gretsch, and Tama. PDP and Mapex are newer brands but seem to be good. I have not played on anything but Ludwig short of bopping around on kits at Guitar Center so take my opinion for what it is.

I check Ebay a few times a week for used gear and have seen several Ludwig kits from the child version to the classic Maple so they are out there.

My local drum shop has a beautiful Ludwig chrome over wood John Bonham setup including the Paiste cymbals. I've never asked the price, though.

Forgot to mention Yamaha.

Take a minute to stop by a guitar center or the local drum shop where you are and listen to the different kits. I left DW off my list due to the cost which is out of reach of many drummers. I consider them the Ferrari of drums and would love to have one someday.

Sorry Holger, that wasn't directed at you. I didn't even think about the spammer post being deleted.

EDIT: I see Embraer covered it in his post.
