Thanks gal and guys. So wine, vodka, Vicodin, stretching, ice and swim in a cold pool. I'll be a drunken, drugged up fool with shriveled you-know-whats in no time.

Welcome to my world.

:) hope you feel better.

Sadly this happened to me (albeit in my neck) scrubbing my hair 2 weeks ago. Me: "Ow! Sonofa! Really? That's all it takes? REALLY?!"

..and yes: ICE.

this, for acute you want ice, heat for muscle spasm though. Contrast can be good too, alternating cold and heat, start and finish with cold

To OP, do you have a history of back problems, is it low back or up between your shoulder blades?

Tylenol is not an anti-inflammatory and will not help as much as ibuprofen or naprosyn.

Do not take narcotics and booze at the same time unless a dirt nap is what you are shooting for.

At a previous job we had monthly safety meetings. One month the theme was back safety. The safety guy told us that it's very common for people to throw their backs out while brushing. I thought it was possible, but unlikely....

I have travelled all the roads mentioned above. Listen to your body. My Chiro wanted ice...I went with it but hobbled after. Later I requested heat and she, wide eyed blinking, said...ok. I was a changed man with the heat. Heat is good. Heat soothes and relaxes where ice makes cold and tense. A stiff 8 fingers of Vodka and Vicodin combined with warm bath was also good...but adult supervision is needed.

Actually I have no idea what I am talking about...other than I have BTDT and don't miss it. Once you are back on your feet start an agressive core body strengthening routine. I avoided it for 46 years and have not looked back since I started it.

I'd never do narcs and booze....well not anymore anyway.

It's my lower back and I don't have a history back problems. That's why I freaked and called my doc's office right away.

You do now. Ice reduces inflammation. Chiropractors adjust misalignments. Sometimes they fix themselves within three weeks, but that has not been my experience.

Ice. I often have lower back issues. My chiro says ICE.

And the only thing I have found to truly take away pain is........

VODKA!

The drugs they gave me after a serious hernia operation did not work. VODKA did. Thank GOD for VODKA!

So Ice for the Vodka and heat for the back?

really depends on how you feel. If it just happened I would just ice it. If it was chronic then heat.

try taking a hot shower and get the wife to poor a bucket of ice water half way through. Always works. ;)
