Considering PPOT is social media.
I have dropped all other forms of social media including chucking the smart phone and going with a Nokia brick. "hence my increased presence on here".
Brainless Zombie I am not....

Never been on any mainstream social media, like facebook or twitter. My own real Life needs the 24 hours alone and besides I have neither any interest in other peoples lives beside my closest nor any need for displaying my own.

I have a Facebook page but rarely visit, and when I do it is only to check in on the local sports car club page. I could care less about the people from my past that I am "friends" with, I quickly realized there is a good reason why I haven't talked with them for 20 years. I don't do Twitter, Instagram, or any of that crap. I maintain a LinkedIn page for professional use, and was actually recruited for my current job through that site. By far my favorite is Pelican, and I would be hard pressed to drop it.

Never used any social media like myspace, Instagram, LinkedIn, Fakebook or Twatter, only forums.

berettafan 03-21-2016 05:16 AM

neither my personal life nor my business need it.

never used it, never will.

anytime I hear the term 'facebook' or 'twitter' or 'instagram' the context is either berating someone or responding to same.

GH85Carrera 03-21-2016 05:29 AM

I did that for the majority of my lifetime. BTDT.

As a kid my parents had zero idea where I was after school except I was outside playing. No one had cell phones back then.

I use my cell phone as a tool for my needs. I do not have a twitter or any of the endless other accounts. The one exception is facebook. I actually keep up with my brother in Alabama and soe real friends that I have been to their house and shared meals with. I have just a few "Facebook friends" and most of those are from this site.

I check my Facebook page about twice a week. I only text a few people and much of that is work related.

I would not want to give up Pelican. Besides the entertainment I have learned a TON of things. You will have to pry the Pelican links from my cold dead hands.

I am 35 so middle of the road, some of you guys have a lot more experience in lofe than I do. But even I remember the days if i needed to get in touch with someone i grabbed the freaking phone and made a call. If not too far took a ride out there... Those things made life more meaningful. Nowadays everyone wants to build a brand to themselves on fb or twitter or etc. Besides that I really miss the quiteness and privacy. Oh btw Pelican is the only forum i am active, because i like people here. Mostly helpful.

ckelly78z 03-21-2016 05:54 AM

I spend alot of time on here, socializing, and maybe 15 minutes on Faceplant every morning just to see what other people are posting ( I post about once a week). I have never twittered anything or sent an emogi, or even "liked" something on FB. I don't need my smart phone, but was forced to accept it as part of a family deal. I find it irritating the the ROW seems to only worry about staying in touch and kinking thier necks staring at those damned phones, and pads.

I am very friendly in person, and love to go to ball games, and camping other couples, and friends, what I can't stand is being the only one that doesn't feel the need to bury my eyes into social media while together.

Now, get off my lawn !

I find I keep a facebook page to help say in touch with my kids more than anything. They both live in different towns, neither are big time facebook posters but they are on there and my son and daughter in law are both active duty Army and he deploys to Afghanistan in a couple of months. I also found my latest rescue through a facebook page for a non profit that specializes in old dog adoptions.

I don't Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram. I have a Facebook page that I post pictures of what I'm having for lunch and cat videos on. I like it for keeping in touch with family and other Pelicans.

Unfortunately, in the business that I'm in and also being in the Art Department, a lot of my work related FB friends are EXTREMELY liberal and probably 40-60% are gay(not that there's anything wrong with that). This poses a bit of a problem, especially around election time. Their posts make PPOT Politics and Religion look like preschool.

I'm probably going to take a bit of a break until this whole "dump Trump"/ "Feel the Bern" thing shakes out.

Same here, except I use my wife's FB to follow the kids. She might be cancelling her account mostly due to inactivity. Even our kids are reigning in the access.

I can say without reservation that as a young man I would not have survived in this social media, cell phone pictures and video driven world. There was goodness in letting your friends know you'd be out of touch when you really would be out of touch. I now love cross country flights since I can enjoy the silence.

Different world, I know: Picture me as the dinosaur looking over his shoulder at the meteor.

In regards to the comment about your kids losing interest, were I a Facebook shareholder I would be selling right about now. My wife is 36, oldest of 10, youngest is 16. Facebook exists in their world, but it seems to be losing a lost of momentum and definitely is competing with Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and probably some other stuff that I'm too old to understand or enjoy. Also seems to be the trend with the younger employees that I work with. Nothing digital is forever, just ask Myspace.

ckelly78z 03-21-2016 10:52 AM

My question for my wife is this....All of these stupid selfies, and snapchatting everything that crosses everyone's path.....how will we look back on old photos as elderly adults sitting in a rocking chair ? I can only imagine the complexity of trying to re-learn new technology every 5 years (and getting shorter) as the old system is outdated, and new (not even imaginable technology) will replace it. The picture history of our existance here is one solar flare/sunburst/EMP from being non-retrievable.

I left the corporate world several years ago, so have no professional need for social media, yet I totally understand that aspect. Used to be on several list servers some years back, mostly music/band related, but I've moved on from that too....now this place is my only social media site. I've been on here quite a bit lately but regularly take a hiatus for weeks or months at a time, but I get real entertainment, and learn stuff here....it's my go to site if I have a question or just want feedback. The brainpower and life experiences of PPOT has never ceased to amaze me, and I've enjoyed the ride ;)

Someday I'll never return...just like EVERYBODY else, so let me just go ahead and thank you all in advance...this place is special, or I wouldn't be here now :D

THANKS guys and gals...all three of you :p

Sounds similar to my FB feed where most of my "friends" are broke-ass musicians.

VaSteve 03-21-2016 02:38 PM

PPOT has become much less relevant to me and I have spent more time on FB. When this thread was created I had like 1 friend and never chcked it. I need to keep up with a lot of local things and am a lot more into music and musician things.

Been on Twitter for years because I like news. It's great if If you know how to use it for that. Occasionally I will converse with a "quasi celebrity" on something and gain new followers. I drop them. Nobody should care what I post. :)

Captain Ahab Jr 03-21-2016 03:14 PM

Easy,

I don't do Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, don't even have a working mobile phone so don't text, have a work email address for work only and a home email address for non-work

As far as social media goes Link-in to keep up with work opportunities and PPOT for fun as its my favourite corner of the web, and also on a couple of other Porsche forums where I post occasionally when I have too much to say

Just too busy with getting on with life to feel the need to spend time trying to make my life sound more interesting than everyone else's when no one is really that interested or cares.

sc_rufctr 03-21-2016 03:31 PM

To me it's like another part of my life. Why would you switch that off?

It's fun and if it's becoming all too much then just walk away.

It has become a tightening noose. VoIP phone, extranet, Internet, email, Facebook, FB Messenger, text, cell calls. A constant barrage of info, requests, questions, solutions, problems, and success & today’s version of camaraderie with your co-workers. And it follows me wherever I go. That is business today.
