doctors, what does the sugar do????
so-
wife asks me a medical question that was going around work today- nurse asked what to do for a rectal prolapse? Doctor instructed the nurse to pour sugar on it and push it in. I understand pushing it back in, I don't know what the sugar was for?

New one on me, I would guess that the sugar would function like sand to keep your tires from slipping, so the rectum would slide on fingers so much.
I see stuff like this, and just shake my head when people ask me how I could be a foot doctor. Every time they take their shoe off at a party, I say to myself, "Thank goodness I am not a proctologist of gynecologist."

Like it or not, half the inside of the human torso is designed mostly around moving material through 30 feet of tubing which is mostly contained inside a bag called the peritoneum. When we males are developing in the womb, the scrotal sack developes similar to the ovaries, but descend later through a couple slits in the peritoneum which don't fully close. Too much pressure inside, and that tube is forced outside the bag. That's why big, tough 300lb weightlifters get hernias. Out through the anus or peritoneum. Eat your fiber kids. They weren't kidding. |

Fiber will help with the straining which can cause or worsen hernias but won't fix a hernia that is already there.
Is this what Def Leppard meant? Pour Some Sugar on Me!!

Warning: TMI for some
 Commonly used in cattle that prolapse a rectum from straining. The sugar absorbs water and pulls water out of the tissue to reduce the swelling so it can be pushed back in. Then some suture patter in placed to keep it from recurring. Same can happen in humans from straining too hard. Can happen to vagina as well... Now you are free to go finish your breakfast
