moreover, there's certain grades of quality of replicants's programming to emulate humans. leon and the other one took only a couple of questions but rachel took ALOT more testing. so that means should a human examiner have done lesser test, rachel would have passed as human. this means that our own humanity is only verified by the examiner of "the human test", not by our self assertion. should an examiner or higher scientific/political authority change the test, they could classify a being as non human w/o challenge.

What I want to know is - what happened to the 6th replicant?
When Deckerd is called in to hunt down the replicants he is told six escaped from an off-world site. Then he is told one died when their craft crash landed back on earth. Next thing you know he has only four to "retire". So, where is number six? Doesn't make sense that it would be Rachel or Deckerd. Neither has apparently been off-world. Well, at least they exhibit no "memory" of being off-world. Guess I'll have to read the book. |

in the updated film, two were fried by the electrical field
it would be illogical that deckard would be THE sixth. maybe deckard is a replicant but he wouldn't be part of the escaped six cause if he was, his presumed human counterparts wouldn't have known him for a long time. |

Replicant Roy's soliloquy at the end shows that he has more existential awareness (humanity) than most humans as juxtaposed against the human Deckard. The point being that because we know life is so short that it is bittersweet. That feeling the warmth of the sun is the sweet and the coldness of the grave the bitter knowledge that soon we will die. So the meaning is that we should enjoy and marvel at the beauty of a single blade of grass while we can.
Since the entire movie builds to this final scene of the juxtaposition of existential awareness between Replicant and Human the Deckard character has to be human in order to be the foil. Otherwise the movie becomes meaningless gibberish. So the movie concludes with human Deckard deciding to put aside his qualms and just love (the elusive unicorn) Rachel the woman who happens to be a Replicant (who as Roy proved can be as human as any human can be). |
Finally but I hope they haven't butchered it.

Cant wait for the new one. Back in the day, I was the only one I knew that that even liked Blade Runner. The rest of the world thought StarWars was Scifi.
On the original, I prefer to take it at face value. That is, Deckard being a human. A bounty hunter of sorts. |
My ex- was a Big Sneeze at Columbia and invited me over to walk the set. Pretty amazing all the detail they put into it and the 20 or so retrofitted cars used (but barely seen) in the background. Set stopped at 1st story, all above in street scenes was matted-in.
New one looks interesting. The music carrryover is promising. But I'm not getting my hopes up too high because... Prometheus. |
