I REALLY like the color film, since it makes the scene more "real" and you can almost picture yourself being there. Those guys really looked young!

My Grandfather was a Warrant on a Jeep Carrier...I still have his uni's. He volunteered in his 40's after Pearl Harbor.

His two brothers were Chiefs on Destroyers.

They remain the best, most interesting, clever and funny men I have ever met.

My Grandfather commissioned me.

They were young. Have a pic of my departed Uncle Gordon in his Captain's uniform...he was a B-17 pilot, europe. Barely old enough to grow that moustache he was sporting. Early 20's...

Good stuff. If you haven't seen WWII in HD you're missing out, probably the best documentary series on WWII that I've ever seen. You can order it from History Channel for $30-ish. Vietnam in HD is excellent also.

I've always been captivated by stories from WWII, particularly the war in the Pacific. Many of the stories of code-breaking, false information, naval maneuvering and ambush, and the battles themselves are worthy of the best novels. Except they are real, and these men lived it. Very difficult to argue with the title of "Greatest Generation", and that's coming from a 31 year old.

Wow. Hard to describe feelings watching that. My Dad flew a TBF Avenger, one of the planes in the clip, in WWII and was shot down twice and once lost power on take-off and ended up in the water right in front of the oncoming Carrier.....and survived.
I'm lucky to be here......I wish he still was.

I work with a guy whose grandfather was Captain of the Lexington during Leyte and a group Admiral during Okinawa. He mention during a discussion basically stating "Yea, my grandfather was in the navy in WW2" .......

Thanks for sharing. I've always been interested in WWII. I used to watch the History Channel a lot when it was good.

I used to love History Channel until they extended Nazi week from a week to a month. Someone over there has a real hard on for the Axis powers.
