Whoa! Tomcat right on top

Been pretty busy here yesterday and today with Obama in the hood. Chinooks in formation and Tomcats buzzing around. But this cat just buzzed the house. Never before have I seen that pattern. Straight up and outta here. Right straight over me. I think he passed Pelican's building about 3 seconds later. Dude was carrying the mail.

Woke the damn neighborhood dogs up, that I can tell you. By the time I can get off my chair and outside to see, it's nothing but a whole lot of noise and hard to spot the plane.

Oh wow, now just then a C17 in a steep bank. I bet a dime to a donut he's coming back around and gonna do the wing wag.
Beautiful cloudless sky in SoCal today, perfect.

Nope, I stood and waited for him. Didn't come back around for the fly over. Guess its not ready for delivery.

Back to our regularly scheduled airlines.

I love when stuff like that happens, my wife hates it. Some fly-overs really scare her.

Happened just a few minutes ago. They made several circle passes over the area while the formation collected. People were out on their porches, all looking to the skies.

I live about a block away from the U of M "Big House" and get all kinds of fly-overs. F-18's are cool, but so is the Presidential helicopter formation with a few double rotors tossed in. I could of picked up some tickets for the graduation commencements, but I'd rather go to a car show Saturday and a home Hi-Fi show (AK-Fest) later that day.

The sound of the fly over was awesome..............if Obama was on board he would have seen me waving with one hand and clicking photos with the other.

Here they come again.

In real life I could see all the lettering and detail on the craft.

The lead craft showed up last, I was expecting all double rotors.

Three of these, as old as my vintage Porsche I bet.

And there they go off in the distance.

Almost enough to make me want to go to the graduation commencements.

They retired the F-14, I think in 2009. Maybe an F-15 or F-18? They're both twin engined, twin vertical stabilizer jets. Jet noise is the sound of freedom.

A couple. And they are married. But they are writing big checks.

Now, go back to PARF.

>> as noted F-14 Tomcats are all [mostly all] at Davis Montham AFB > off active duty and in mothballs - replaced by the F-18 Hornet [multiple varients].. Iran still has some F-14s but don't think they can fly - we cut off their spare parts back in 79...

the "Chinhooks" are really USMC UH-46 Sea Knights - used for presidential support - CH-46 is smaller than the Army CH-47 Chinook... they look very similiar.. // the Army special operations "hook" [D-model I think - bad azz bird - ugly but very capable...

the other presidentail helo is the H-3 [VH-3D- more precisely] Sea King.. man, they been flying that bird a long time...

If I had to bet, I'd say F-18? There's a lot of them about now and not so many F-15's. Is there even a base with F-15's in California now?

If they still have the air show at March AFB in Moreno Valley, it used to be pretty cool. I used to set up the explosives on the runway for the simulated B-52 bombing run while I was stationed there.

F-18 vertical stabs are canted. You are thinking of the F-15. Correct on the retirement though. I live under perpetual jet noise.... From F-18's.

Yes, I could feel the rotor pulses. AFA Tomcats, Hornets, Sea Knights, I really don't give a fook. How 'bout I just say "military fighter" and "helicopter?"

I'm sure technically those are incorrect terms.

New post: A freakin' screaming gray military jet rocketed over my house and off into Pelican land (Torrance, Harbor City). I should mention he was alone as his buddy was already over Hugh's house, an hour by car in good times. I guess that's what you get when you're asleep at the green light.

Yesterday and this morning there were lots of these big ass twin rotor helos, five or six to a group lumbering overhead rattling the windows. They dropped party favors and candy for the kids. Nice guys those presidential support men.

Oh, Bob, I did use the classic version of the saying. BTW, if you pay a buck for a donut, you're paying too much.

About 15 yeas ao Clinton was visiting Atlanta. Some uh, unrelated, chose that Day to rob a bank. Happened to be along the route the pres was taking. The robber was in for a rude awakening when they diverted a bunch of sharpshooters and other big gun guys to t he bank.

Long, ugly tale, but the replacement for the VH-3 was cancelled after some stupendously stupid mistakes.

I know most of the players. US101 (EH-101 variant) wins Presidential helicopter contract

Notice the date: 2005. They are working the next competition now.

The sleeker helos your see are VH-60s, which have the same paint scheme as the VH-3.

The President flies in the VH-3 nearly all the time.

Years back when I was living in ohio......
George w was in cuyahoga falls and we heard a small cessna type plane.......normal kinda day as there were alot of them at a local airport.......
But then we hear the roar of an f18 and see him in full heavy bank to scrub of speed and circles the cessna a few times......then the cessna banked and headed of in the other direction.........afterburners and the f18 goes vertical and disappears.........
On the news it was an older local pilot who didn't have his radio on and had no idea of the moving no fly zone lol.........
I'm sure he had to change his shorts after that encounter :-)
