I am a no tail guy myself. My 911 grail is a Carrera coupe, white, G50 transmission, Euro lights, and no tail. Black Fuchs.

A 911 needs a tail and spoiler to address a real problem - LIFT. 3.0 turbo whaletail for me.

Modern cars, with windtunnel testing helping the design, probably do very well w/o the fancy tail. But we all know they look cool.

When younger , I thought all 911's had to have tails To me, it was the signature 911 look. Now , I like them both ways, sort of depends on the car .My next narrow body car will probably be sans tail. I think tails are only appropriate on bumper bellows cars, and tails on longhoods make me sick. I do also love the look of the duck like Ricks above.

I prefer narrow body without and wide body with.... The lines on both just look right!

It surprises me a little, I guess, that some folks prefer no tail. My car has the tail (not the huge Turbo tail) and chin spoiler, and that is my ideal. Plus......I can tell you it makes a huge difference starting at about freeway speeds. Especially at 80+. Very solid.

The ones with big spoilers look like boy racers, no offence to the men driving them! I prefer the ones that retract - they are more subtle. The Boxster I have- the spoiler does not function anymore and is retracted. Probably miss it when I am going above 80 mph which is not very often.

No tail, no stripes, no flares...the cleaner the better it looks!

I grew up on the 911s with tails.

These all look hot.

Whale tail

Carrera tail

Turbo tail (best left to the widebodies)

They are all hot, all of them. Do you know what else is hot?
no tail.

Narrow body - no tail, but a ducktail looks nice...
Wide body - tail looks great

Just my opinion...

I have both for mine. I had the tail off for about a year and all last year I put it back on. I think it has its advantages both ways. Seems like when I have the tail on, most every non porsche person asked me if its a turbo.

Youre from the breakfast club era and you call yourself 'old'? You have bigger issues than tail or no tail.
