He's not a hater. He just doesn't suffer fools gladly.

It may appear rude at times... like what you just said... but sometimes one is compelled to speak their mind and not be overly concerned if someone else gets their feelings hurt.

It'll happen to you at some point. I'm betting it already has... at least a few times. Even as far back as grade school. :)

Yes, Grade School Behavior, That's the ticket !

Lots of folks come to PARF and state unequivocally some long held belief and expect everyone to say "wow...you are so smart, thank you for enlightening us!"...then someone else Is "mean" and posts a different opinion with a well reasoned argument and a few facts to back it up. The poster either puts on their big boy pants and improves their argument or is all hurt and comes to OT to insult the guys in PARF (or in some cases, has the nads to do so in PARF).

It must be strange to live and work in worlds where everyone agrees or just doesn't care. Pablum for the masses, I guess. IMHO, it just shows how good life is for some. It is difficult to think about and discuss complex issues. For example, the guy who doesn't pay taxes doesn't care to think that means another man that is working smarter and/or harder might not appreciate subsidizing his lifestyle and that if his family. It is much easier to just not think about things that make one uncomfortable. You see similar arguments on OT such as a couple of current ones where guys who drive in the left lane are so anxious to justify their bad behavior because it just doesn't fit into their world view that they could possibly be the "bad guy".

Unfortunately, most everyone gets to vote whether they have educated themselves or even considered the issues...and the results have huge consequences. Once again, when you lose your job, gas prices are too high, the country goes to war, etc...it is much easier to blame someone else or assume there was nothing you could have done to change things...than to accept responsibility that how you voted or failed to vote is causal.

Well said.

PARF is just a collection of dueling monologues. Most of the guys that post all day long seem to be unemployed or retired bitter old men. There have been a few, good, interesting discussions and contrary to many posts here, it's clear that minds have been changed on some issues. And there are some very intelligent, experienced people that do post, like Seahawk and Dottore, that make it worthwhile. But like anything in life, you get out what you put in.

Which is a shame. Because you are one of the people on the "other side", whos opinion i respect and listen to. There are about 4 or 5 , that have actually made me look at things a differently. You guys (and gal) are the ones that present intelligent mature arguments, and dont come across as condescending a-holes.

Flintstone, wow you are so smart, you have enlightened me. Haha, no seriously....that was very elegantly stated. I think most people won't push themselves to change their minds because it's easier not to.

Or some of us realize that politicians are all the same just wearing different masks... and those who pick sides are fools.

Oh.. was that mean?

People get frustrated when their POV is not listened to nor considered. People out of frustration start to use insults as a means of wounding another's feelings either in retribution or to get their attention as in being listened to.

Now you Nancy's listen up...U do not throw out the baby with the bath water cause the baby crapped in it...you just skim the crap off the surface by scrolling through it... so get some nads and grow some hair around em...

Further it seems I have a much more sophisticated and powerful clientele on another Board.

I still don't undestand the mindset of people who feel they're forced to read certain threads and then feel insulted because they clicked on it. I was fine before OT and PARF were separated. I click on a small fraction of threads on either one and don't recall ever being forced to do so, even the ones that have gone on for months or years with hundred or thousands of replies. Plenty of the topics don't interest or excite me in the least. And the ones that do don't upset me at all when I read them and disagree or feel moved to chime in. I've met and hung out with probably a majority of the folks with high post counts in OT and PARF. I just don't see the aversion of PARF. Don't like it? Don't click on it and/or don't throw bombs that will get replies you might not like. What's so hard about that? I've never watched ESPN for one minute, but don't really mind having to scroll past it on my channel guide either.

Why all the PARF-mongers trying to justify their existence here? There's a place all for you. PAARF. Get as dirty as you like. But please don't track your dirt back inside the house - PPOT.

I'm not sure why this thread exists. It's like announcing to the word that I don't kill squirrels (though my dog gives them a run for their money). Who really cares? :)

fintstone 02-17-2012 10:04 AM

I think it means that someone came to PARF and one of the meanies were mean to them...and they are looking for a little support from their peeps.

Jim Richards 02-17-2012 10:08 AM

You're probably right.

Zeke 02-17-2012 10:19 AM

He nailed it

When the Politics and Religion subforum was created, I recall the rationale was to quarantine the offensive digs to that venue. I believe it has backfired. By tolerating the rude and sometimes personal attacks in PARF, we've created a petri dish of horrible disrespectful behaviors.

It festers, breeds, bubbles, and bleeds into other Pelican forums, especially PPOT. It truly poisons my time here, to the point where I don't visit as much.

I don't enjoy being part of a community that cannot be civil towards one another. The moderators have better things to do than nanny behavior that should have been learned in middle school.

This ^^^^ and IBTL. I think that was the last thing in this thread that made much sense. And at what? Post # 3.
