I have never been to PARF

And don't plan on going.

I just read the Gas Prices thread. Wow. Why get ugly? I can find so many reasons to get riled up and bicker. One of the reasons I come to PPOT is that it is somewhat conflict free.

You PARF folks? Go ahead. I guess it just isn't my cup of tea.

I needed to get this off my chest.

Never go back again. It's not worth the pain. I'm trying to withdraw but every once in awhile it sucks me in, terrible place.

kaisen 02-16-2012 06:40 AM

I agree, completely

When the Politics and Religion subforum was created, I recall the rationale was to quarantine the offensive digs to that venue. I believe it has backfired. By tolerating the rude and sometimes personal attacks in PARF, we've created a petri dish of horrible disrespectful behaviors.

It festers, breeds, bubbles, and bleeds into other Pelican forums, especially PPOT. It truly poisons my time here, to the point where I don't visit as much.

I don't enjoy being part of a community that cannot be civil towards one another. The moderators have better things to do than nanny behavior that should have been learned in middle school.

Every time I engage in a thread there, I leave feeling 50% dumber.

I don't post much in PARF but I do spend sometime there reading the posts. A lot of the posters seem very intelligent.

You really do get both sides of the story but the insults and mockery seem to be all too common but don't let that put you off.
I believe if you don't show someone some respect regardless of their views you've already lost the argument.

"A lot"? I'll give you SOME, but a lot? :D

I originally wrote "some" but there aren't that many really active PARFERs so I thought a "lot" was more appropriate. I hope that makes sense.

Opinionated yes, intelligent no. PARF-be afraid, be very afraid.

I am guilty of lurking the once or twice out of morbid curiosity... but never bothered to post... and have lost any desire to go back.

So much negativity in this world, why invite more into your life?

this is how i feel. i dont know enough facts to back up my opinions. i best stay out.

next year, they should have a 100% PARF "dont call it Christmas" gift exchange. i bet they send each other dog turds :)

wdfifteen 02-16-2012 07:25 AM

There are some good discussions there that quickly devolve into name calling, but sometimes they last for 10 posts or so before going to downhill. There are some smart people who have interesting, informative things to say. There are also people who live to fight, and if there isn't a fight going they'll start a thread trolling for one. It is what it is.

Jim Richards 02-16-2012 07:39 AM

You need a shower after spending time in PARF.

VINMAN 02-16-2012 07:51 AM

I keep attempting to make a sworn promise to avoid it, But like a fly to s**! I get drawn back.

It is a waste of time. There are only 2 or 3 worthwhile civil posters on either side, who are not condescending, and dont have to resort to infantile name calling, insulting or trolling.

I've always been a strong Conservative since i was a teenager, but as far as politics goes, lately i find myself pretty much apathetic, and really not giving a crap anymore. It is what it is.

island911 02-16-2012 07:52 AM

Wow. It is so great to see that some here are so much better than those on PARF. .... able to resist all of that pathetic whining over trivial topics.

oh wait.

Seriously; it's not the topics that make one less annoying than another. There are plenty of obnoxious posters on 'regular OT' as well.

YMMV

Yes, you do post here from time to time :D

ramonesfreak 02-16-2012 09:35 AM

it stinks like baby diaper poo over there

fintstone 02-16-2012 10:32 AM

Sure, why talk politics when you can spend your time at such critical tasks such as close examination of photos of other fellow's wives and girlfriends...or discussing shaving the area around your member...or how fast your Mustang is in OT.

You said it better than I ever could. Pelican Parts, and I mean all of the forums on PP used to be a much friendlier place. More community. Now? I'm like you, I just don't visit, or post, as much.
