They have to make money.........................I guess.

What a perfectly awful name for a reasonably good looking SUV.

"The name is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and according to Porsche it embodies the suppleness, power, and dynamics of the new model."

Jim Richards 02-16-2012 07:11 AM

OoooKaaaayyyy. Indonesian names for or Porsches. Spanish names for Porsches. What's next? LOL!

Jared at Pelican Parts 02-16-2012 07:20 AM

Porsche Toucan Sam

kaisen 02-16-2012 07:34 AM

Hey, Tiguan and Touareg are also weird names ..... VW's influence is alive and well in Stuttgart

Jim Richards 02-16-2012 07:37 AM

Absolutely! Someone in Marketing needs to be slapped in the head.

rusnak 02-16-2012 07:42 AM

It embodies the suppleness, power, and wheels of a cheap drug dealer's car looking thing.

Jim Richards 02-16-2012 07:48 AM

Lol!

kaisen 02-16-2012 08:07 AM

One of Porsche's spokespeople just told me it was pronounced: (mah•khahn)

HardDrive 02-16-2012 08:11 AM

Hate on it all you like, they're going to sell a crap load of them.

rusnak 02-16-2012 08:13 AM

s_wilwerding 02-16-2012 09:04 AM

I'm interested - I like Cayennes, but they are bigger than I need, but I still would like to keep the AWD (I have a CRV now). I really like the looks of the Audi Q5s (which is what they are basing the Macan on), so I think it will be sharp looking. I'll have my order in.

+1. I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but the three weeks I had a Cayenne loaner (a few years back) were an eye opener for me. Now if they make it smaller and sharper, like an upscale Subaru ( :p ) I could be very tempted. I'll at least keep an open mind about it until I see / drive it.

...not that I can afford it anyway. :(

Put some cheap veneer down the sides and a 9-iron through the back window and call it the "Tiger Woods".

Like that weird thing Tiger Woods sported for GM- Buick?

Arizona_928 02-16-2012 10:42 AM

The 944 of the suv's.....

Les Paul 02-16-2012 11:33 AM

AZ_porschekid, believe it or not when 944's came out they were pretty darn cool looking and performing. They sold like hotcakes.

My wife had an Infiniti FX-35 when they came out. Ran good, looked totally different but was rough as hell with those 20 inch wheels. She has had a G-35 which they have not altered for 5 years. She wants another SUV but not another Infiniti. This looks real promising. She never like the looks of the Cayenne front end or may have gone for one of those.

vash 02-16-2012 12:03 PM

i kinda like it.

i kinda like it alot. if i buy one, i'll start a debadging thread. :)

Jim Richards 02-16-2012 12:04 PM

Great idea. Just tell people you bought a Porsh SUV and let it go at that. :)

Is it desirable to need to explain how to pronounce the name of your product? I'm no marketing major, but I'm thinking that answer is no.

Noah930 02-16-2012 12:22 PM

What happened to "Cajun?"

All that ad and just a single shot at the end of a rough sketch of the vehicle? I remember a joke Jay Leno made the marketing ploys used when the Lexus and Infiniti lines first launched 20+ years ago. Something along the lines of Lexus outselling rival Infiniti by a margin of 2:1. "And in an unrelated news story, sales of rocks and trees are way up!"

GH85Carrera 02-16-2012 12:27 PM

It was going to be the Cajun but the Germans could not pronounce Cajun for beans.

I'm sure the back seats fold down. Therefore, Macan Bacon.

all they need is a pickup truck and something that seats 4 with a 3 cyl engine and they can be everything to everybody...

Oh, and maybe a touring bus would be nice.

A shame actually...
